Today we’d like to introduce you to Samone Scott
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Samone Scott, better known by her stage name $am1 is a talented rapper/songwriter. Being born in Columbus, Ohio; raised in Long Beach, California and now residing in Houston, Texas has given her an eclectic background and a unique style proven to be marketable internationally. She fell in love with music young and began working on her craft at the tender age of 8. No stranger to the stage she has participated and won numerous beauty pageants, talent shows, lounge and club performances over the years. As a natural people-person she commands every room showing off her impeccable star quality.
After moving to Houston for college in 2015, $am began taking her music career seriously. Immediately she became known on campus as the best female rapper and joined Texas Southern University’s cypher to stamp the approval. The response grew a hunger within her that pushed her to complete her first project “The Chosen One” exclusively provided to Datpiff.
From here she only grew a deeper desire to perfect her craft which sparked the debut of her fan favorite project “Melanated” that gained $am1 her first 60,000+ streams and praises for her vivid storytelling and hard punchlines. Following this dark lyrical tone; she spent a couple years pursuing a larger fanbase by participating in multiple shows via SXSW, bar/lounge showcases, vlogs and personal interviews including:

In building up to the release of her most recent project “222: The Evolution” $am1 continued putting out her dynamic freestyles/covers that each gained anywhere from 500- 2k views. Continuing to build $am looks forward to creating and putting out new music all while pushing her current art. Networking and performing are amongst her favorite things to do but she is also looking to expand her talents and share her visual eye for videos/movies as well as show her full range as a songwriter/writer of songs and short films. With an increase in experience and exposure $am is sure to be a star full of creativity, passion and raw talent. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced a number of challenges while building and maintaining my music career. First and foremost, I understand no matter how talented you are that you must invest in yourself to succeed. I always had to be extremely resourceful and work odd jobs in order to book studio time and brand myself. Having a limited amount of funds can definitely discourage the vision you have for yourself. Also, for most of my journey I was full time Biology student at the Illustrious Texas Southern University, which demanded most of my time. Finally, the biggest obstacle I continued to face was that of my health. Being born with Sicklecell Anemia; most of my battles began and were fought inside the hospital rooms. Instead of letting that stop me I chose to let music be my outlet and express these hurdles in the booth and on stage!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Known for my online freestyles and raw lyrical abilities. I’ve won numerous showcases and impressed many A&R execs as well as radio personalities. I continue to stay independent and focus on growing my personal fan base with my various talents. I have a coloring book coming out soon, I am preparing to launch a customized clothing line, continue growing my YouTube and overall online presence by giving my fans something to come back for. More music and eye catching visuals!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating in any capacity! Whether drawing, painting, writing or performing. Comments from my fans always make me smile and encourages me to keep on my path. I found I also enjoy traveling and meeting new people that ultimately inspire me and help me stay current with the culture. Any place I can experience live music, good food and great vibes is my type of scene!
