Conversations with Opemipo Ajape

Today we’d like to introduce you to Opemipo Ajape

Hi Opemipo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I always knew I was destined to do great things, no matter where I found myself in the world. This conviction stemmed from my upbringing, which instilled in me a “can-do” mentality and a “never give up” attitude, all grounded in a Bible-believing perspective. These principles shaped my belief that I could become everything God created me to be.

From a young age, I had a deep passion for helping others, and I discovered my love for storytelling early on. I often wrote letters to my dad, who worked in a different region, recounting everything that happened during his absence. My storytelling was so vivid that my mom was often surprised by how much my dad knew about life at home despite being away—that was my doing.

When I wrote the manuscript for my first book, Sow, Grow, Reap: Pruning to Bear the Fruit of the Spirit from Within, I felt it was incomplete without a version for kids. Knowing that God had blessed me with the gift of storytelling, I was inspired to create manuscripts for children’s books as well. My inspiration often comes in the most unexpected places—like the bathroom or while on a plane.

A few months after releasing those books, I felt led to start my own storytelling publishing company for kids who have stories to share. It’s been a remarkable journey so far, and I’m grateful to God for His faithfulness every step of the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped me into the person I am today. One of the biggest struggles was navigating self-doubt and wondering if I was truly equipped to fulfill the vision God placed in my heart. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed by the magnitude of my dreams, especially when resources or guidance seemed scarce.

Another challenge was balancing my responsibilities. Writing my first book while managing other commitments wasn’t easy, and I had to make sacrifices, such as giving up social media and other distractions during my fasts to stay focused.

Starting a publishing company also came with its own set of obstacles, including learning how to build something from the ground up without prior experience. Yet, each hurdle taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, trust in God, and leaning on the support of others.

Despite the struggles, I’ve seen God’s faithfulness at every turn. These challenges have not only refined me but have also deepened my reliance on Him. I now view these obstacles as stepping stones that have helped me grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear many hats, which makes my journey both challenging and rewarding. Outside of being an author and the owner of a storytelling-focused publishing firm, I serve in the military as a reservist and have proudly been in the Army for almost 10 years. Serving my country has taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of teamwork—qualities that I bring into every area of my life.

In addition to my military service and writing endeavors, I work in the field of clinical research, specifically in drug development. My focus is on decentralized clinical trials, a cutting-edge approach that makes clinical studies more accessible and efficient for patients around the world. It’s fulfilling to know that my work contributes to advancements in medicine and improving lives.

What sets me apart is the intentionality I bring to all my roles. Whether it’s storytelling through my books, mentoring others, or contributing to life-changing research, I strive to operate with purpose and passion. I am most proud of my ability to impact lives—through my books, my military service, and my contributions to healthcare. Each role I play aligns with my desire to inspire, uplift, and serve others in meaningful ways.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me that life can change in the blink of an eye and reinforced the importance of adaptability and resilience. During the pandemic, I was part of the “jump team” at my clinical research job. Our mission was to travel to medically underserved areas across the country, educate communities on staying safe, and introduce them to the vaccine and monoclonal antibody treatments.

It was a challenging time—we were on the frontlines, exposed to the virus, and some of us even fell ill and carried it home. Despite the risks, our love for humanity and dedication to making a difference kept us going. We remained committed to our work until the pandemic subsided.

This experience not only deepened my respect for healthcare workers and public health professionals but also reminded me of the power of collective effort and compassion. It was a humbling yet rewarding chapter of my life that reinforced the importance of serving others, even in the face of uncertainty and personal risk.
