Today we’d like to introduce you to Majik Ball
Hi Majik, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved art ever since I was a child. My mother always said that my art was a great hobby but I wanted to take it a step further. I wanted to prove my grit in a world of capitalism and share my beauty. I have always been told that this could never be a career or make any real money so I feel like I’ve always had something to prove by creating anyway. Even the very first time I entered into an art event at my childhood church, to show and sell my art, I asked an artist that I admired for pricing advice and she told me that if I wasn’t sure how to price my art that I have no business selling it. Everyone that has found a love in what I’ve created has helped so much in actualizing my lifelong dream.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have never had it easy, but my art has been my escape. I was a sick kid, and I’m a sick adult now, so drawing was my way of healing. My family experienced homelessness, and having a sketch pad helped give me an outlet during that period of time. I started being more active online and finding my community during the pandemic, and a paint brush helped me heal from a very nasty case of Covid.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love to create and constantly add to my repertoire. I’ve dabbled and learned multiple mediums to get whatever result I’m trying to imagine. I primarily switch between acrylic painting and digital art; I love to capture nature and all of its aspects. I have a unique blend of the macabre and the whimsical, while also pulling from spiritual and cultural themes. A moment that stands out to me and filled me with pride was the very first time someone found me at a market and told me they followed me and were so excited that they could finally meet me. What frequently sets my art apart is how I’m not afraid to mix mediums and learn new skills just for a desired outcome, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself into one of way of creating.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m an active member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and several of my pieces are inspired directly by my community.
