Daily Inspiration: Meet Loyce Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loyce Brown

Hi Loyce, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Loyce Brown, and BeeQuench’d is a piece of my heart. After 29 years as a science teacher, including 16 years teaching junior high at Katy ISD, I decided it was time to retire. Teaching had been my passion, but the years after the pandemic changed everything. The constant pressures and interventions left me feeling anxious and disconnected. I knew I needed something to help me reclaim my peace, so I turned to slow care—simple, intentional self-care practices that helped me reconnect with myself.
Almost 30 years ago, my daughter was born with eczema, and I started experimenting with natural, organic ingredients to create skincare products that would be gentle and effective for her sensitive skin. It was a labor of love, born from my desire to give her comfort and confidence.
In 2021, during one of the most challenging periods of my life, BeeQuench’d was officially born. At the time, I had started burning candles to help me destress after long, busy days. I loved the calming ritual, but I quickly discovered I was allergic to soy and paraffin candles—they irritated me, triggering allergies and asthma. That’s when I decided to start making my own candles as a way to manage my anxiety without the harmful effects of traditional candles. Using clean, natural ingredients like coconut apricot wax and beeswax, paired with wooden wicks, I created candles that didn’t just light up a room—they brought me peace and clarity.
At 60, I took a leap of faith into entrepreneurship. BeeQuench’d became a reflection of my journey—a blend of clean skincare, handmade candles, and the faith that carried me through the tough times. Every product I make is crafted with care, whether it’s body butter, scrubs, or cement jar candles. Each one ties back to my faith, with names inspired by the Beatitudes, like “Be Happy,” “Be Joyful,” and “Be Kind.”
Starting this business wasn’t easy. I had to learn everything from scratch—running an e-commerce shop, connecting with customers, and building a brand. But through it all, I leaned on my faith and the lessons I learned as a teacher: patience, perseverance, and the ability to adapt.
BeeQuench’d isn’t just a business to me—it’s my way of saying, “I see you. I’ve been there. And you deserve this care.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting BeeQuench’d has been one of the most rewarding yet challenging journeys of my life. I went from being a science teacher, where I knew my routines and roles like the back of my hand, to stepping into the completely unknown world of entrepreneurship at 60. It’s a big leap, and I’ll be honest—there were moments when I felt overwhelmed.

One of the biggest struggles was learning everything from scratch. I didn’t have a background in business, marketing, or running an e-commerce shop. Suddenly, I was not only creating products but also trying to figure out websites, shipping logistics, social media, and how to connect with customers. Let me tell you, TikTok was a whole new world for me!

Another challenge was balancing everything. I was dealing with my own anxiety, trying to prioritize self-care while building a brand centered around it. Some days, it felt like I was juggling too much—creating products, managing the business side, and still showing up for myself and my family.

And then there were the moments of doubt. I’d wonder if I’d made the right decision leaving the comfort of what I knew behind. Would people resonate with what I was creating? Would they understand the heart behind BeeQuench’d?

But I’ve learned to lean into those struggles and let my faith guide me. Every challenge taught me something new. When I felt like giving up, I reminded myself why I started—to create products that help others feel cared for and seen, just like I needed during my hardest times.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been worth every bump. I’ve grown stronger, more resilient, and more grateful for every step of this journey. Through it all, I’ve realized that the challenges are just part of the story—and they make the victories even sweeter.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create my candles and skincare products is truly a labor of love. Every single item I make is handcrafted with care, from the ingredients I choose to the way I package each product. I specialize in creating clean, organic skincare for sensitive skin and eczema, as well as hand-poured luxury candles that not only light up a room but bring peace and calm to your space.

One of the things that makes BeeQuench’d unique is that I don’t just pour candles—I handcraft each cement jar myself. There’s something deeply satisfying about starting with raw materials and turning them into beautiful, functional art pieces that hold the candles I pour. What makes these cement vessels even more special is how sustainable they are. Customers can easily reuse their candle jars by getting a refill candle! It’s my way of helping people enjoy their favorite scents while reducing waste.

I’m proud of the fact that everything I make is rooted in intention. My skincare products were inspired by my daughter, who was born almost 30 years ago with eczema. I wanted to create something gentle, organic, and nourishing for her skin. Those same principles still guide me today as I make products like body butters, sugar scrubs, and face creams.

As for my candles, they’re deeply personal. I started making them for myself after realizing I was allergic to traditional soy and paraffin candles. They triggered my allergies and asthma, and I wanted something clean and safe to burn in my home. Now, I use natural coconut apricot wax and beeswax, paired with wooden wicks, to create candles that are as functional as they are beautiful.

What sets BeeQuench’d apart is the heart and faith behind it. Every product I make ties back to the Beatitudes, with themes like “Be Happy,” “Be Joyful,” and “Be Kind.” I want people to feel cared for when they use my products—to know they’re seen and valued.

I’m most proud of the impact my work has on others. Whether it’s someone with sensitive skin finding relief or a customer telling me how calming my candles are, those moments remind me why I started. This isn’t just about selling products; it’s about creating experiences that bring peace, joy, and a little light into people’s lives. That’s what makes it all worth it.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t about big numbers or flashy achievements—it’s about quality and making an impact, no matter how small. I define success as knowing that what I create brings value to someone’s life. It’s hearing a mom tell me my skincare products soothed her child’s eczema or learning that one of my candles brought someone a moment of peace and tranquility after a long day. Those connections mean everything to me.

Success also feels personal. It’s knowing that I had the courage to start BeeQuench’d at age 60, stepping into the unknown and building something from the ground up. It’s being able to look back, seeing how far I’ve come, where I’ve come from, and where I’m heading-even on the days when it felt overwhelming.

For me, success is about balance, too. It’s finding joy in my work while staying true to my faith and prioritizing self-care. It’s not just about how much I accomplish but how I feel while doing it—at peace, fulfillment, and proud of the journey in which I’m pursuing.

Ultimately, success is creating a legacy that inspires others to care for themselves, embrace their faith, and never give up on their dreams, no matter where they are in life. If I can do that, I know I will have arrived.
