Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Adamson
Hi Allie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Allie Adamson and I am a dual American and Australian citizen with over a decade of experience in the healthcare business sector. We relocated from Perth, Western Australia to Houston in August of 2024. However, I feel like an adopted Houstonian already as many of my expat friends in Perth hail from Houston. This has certainly made transitioning to a new city easier with many cross-continental friends established here!
Born and raised in South Carolina, I moved to Perth, Western Australia in 2010 after studying abroad through Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Whilst in Perth, I met my husband, immigrated to Australia and our three children were born overseas.
I have an undergraduate degree in Biology and completed postgraduate studies in Health Care Management. My expertise spans primary care providers, tertiary private hospitals, surgical/medical specialists, and aged care providers. My diverse portfolio encompasses business development, marketing, PR, events, recruitment, and sponsorship for the healthcare industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think careers are never meant to be smooth; this is what helps us to grow! 2 years ago, in an attempt to “work smarter and not harder” after the pandemic and our third child was born, I started my own consulting business, Allie Adamson Consulting. This was driven by the desire to continue to add value in the healthcare space while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am passionate about empowering doctors and healthcare organizations to build the backbones for success by business planning, strategizing and considering their “why” before they think about the “how”. Studies show that patient outcomes are more favorable when healthcare providers’ motivation and business strategies underpin why they do what they do.
For fun, I enjoy playing in a tennis league, spending time on the water, thrifting, and volunteering with Houston Welcomes Refugees. Our favorite local restaurants that we have discovered so far include the Pit Room, Dish Society, Tinys for dessert and Slowpokes for coffee! Personally, I think Australia does coffee, bakeries and wine better than the USA but you can’t beat Texas BBQ or margaritas!
This year, I am looking forward to working alongside the team at Memorial Children’s Dentistry as they grow their pediatric practice!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I feel strongly about continuing to foster the strong relationship that the USA has with Australia and believe there is a lot of crossover and shared learnings between both countries and their healthcare systems.
I was on the Board for the American Women’s Club in Perth and had several experiences of spending time with the USA Consulate Generals in Perth over the past 15 years. This is something that I hope to continue here in Houston through organizations like the Australian American Chamber of Commerce and TANZOT. There are strong ties between Perth and Houston through the oil and gas industry, and so leveraging the incredible network between both cities is also incredibly valuable.
