Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrisha (Tee Styles) Lewis
Hi Terrisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Im a passionate Cosmetologist turned Loctician , educator, and Mompreneur with a mission to redefine the beauty industry by empowering others to Embrace celebrating natural hair. Over the years, I’ve built a career helping my tribe feel confident and educated about their loc journey. My journey began about 16 yrs ago when I discovered my love for hair. Growing up, I use to look at styles in magazines and try them on my mom. She was my 1st real client & my biggest supporter. I was always drawn to the artistry of hairstyling, addicted to getting that smile out of people when I spin them around in the mirror, & the transformative power of self-expression through hair. After attending beauty school and being introduced to some new loc clients I noticed a lack of education for locs in the beauty industry, I decided to seek out information on locs to try it on my clients. I started small—working on friends and family and learning as much as I could about locs. Starting out wasn’t easy. I noticed that traditional beauty schools didn’t teach enough about locs, which made it challenging to find formal education. I took it upon myself to study, attend workshops, and experiment. Over time, my dedication paid off, and I began building a loyal client base. Some of my proudest moments along my Journey was winning a award for stylist of the year in 2019 and becoming an educator, where I could share my knowledge with others and inspire upcoming stylists. Today, I am proud to have the clientele I have where they genuinely trust me with their crown but also teach others about loc care and styling through courses I’ve developed. I’m also hosting events now like my upcoming loc Hairshow “Trill Loc’d Hairshow “ to bring the loc community together and celebrate the beauty of loc artistry. My journey has been a mix of hard work, faith, and a deep love for what I do, and I am forever grateful for every step along the way. I’m so thankful for how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited about the future to see what god has in store for me. My goal is to continue making an impact , empowering others, whether through my work behind the chair or through education, events or just true to who I am. I truly believe that when you follow your passion and stay committed, you can achieve anything.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship has definitely not been a smooth road, it’s a journey filled with challenges, growth, and lessons. One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced is the inconsistent income flow that often comes with building a business. There were times I had to make tough decisions about where to allocate resources, balancing the need to invest in my business with the need to manage my personal finances wisely.
Another challenge was taking the leap of faith to truly invest in myself and my vision. It’s not always easy to bet on yourself, especially when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. I had to remind myself that setbacks don’t mean failure—they’re just opportunities to learn and grow. When something didn’t work, I refused to give up. Instead, I adjusted, adapted, and kept going until I found what worked.
Looking back, I’m proud of the resilience and faith that carried me through those moments. Every challenge has been a stepping stone to where I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed Cosmetologist and educator specializing in all things locs; loc care, styling, maintenance, repair ,loc extensions etc. I’m known for my attention to detail, ability to recreate any image shown to me by my clients, my craft of caring for healthy, beautiful locs, and my passion for teaching others through education. What I’m most proud of is the impact I’ve made in empowering clients and students to embrace the beauty of locs while providing the knowledge to care for them properly. What sets me apart is my passion to not only provide excellent service but also building genuine connections and creating a welcoming, uplifting experience for everyone I work with.
What’s next?
I’m currently planning and looking forward to my upcoming loc hair show in March, which is dedicated to celebrating locs and natural hair in the beauty industry. One of my goals is to create a platform for beauty school students to compete, as they don’t often get the exposure they deserve. This event isn’t just for aspiring loc stylists entering the industry, but for the entire loc community—a space to celebrate the artistry, creativity, and beauty of locs.
In addition to the hair show, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll also be launching my loc hair care product line soon. It’s been a dream of mine to provide a product that supports healthy locs and natural hair, and I can’t wait to share it with the everyone. More events coming Stay tuned .
