Today we’d like to introduce you to Aila Farfan
Hi Aila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has always been an important part of me, something I felt deeply since I was born. But my journey as an artist started years later, becoming a path of self exploration and reinvention, constantly searching for my voice that felt true to myself.
I first stepped into the world of music through my school choir, where I discovered my voice, and later, as a teenager, I joined my city Children’s Symphony Orchestra, where I learn for a couple of years the violin. That classical foundation gave me a deep appreciation for melody and composition, shaping the way I listen music.
Years later, I started with songwriting, pouring my emotions and letting my mind and voice shaped the words and music, and eventually I decided to record it professionally and started to develop the visual identity and concept behind it. My debut EP, “Tragedy is the Art” consist of four songs, each representing a pivotal season of my life.
This for me represents just the beginning of my music journey, I crave to experiment with genres and instruments, storytelling and perspectives, cant wait to see where it takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been challenges along the way. Navigating the industry as an independent artist means wearing many hats, not just creating music, but also learning how to promote it, build an audience, and balance ir all with my personal life and other responsibilities. Its a process of constant trial and error, figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
On a personal level, one of the biggests challenges has been sharing the most vulnerable parts of myself with the world. Its not always easy, but I believe that staying true to yourself is essential.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Im a musician, singer songwriting. My work is deeply personal, blending atmospheric production with raw emotions and storytelling. One of the things im most proud of my recent work, my first EP Tragedy is the Art, it was that i learned to translate my emotions into something tangible, learning the process from songwriting to production, and developing a visual and conceptual identity around it.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Austin for its vibrant music scene and creative energy. Theres always something happening, live shows, festivals, and community that truly values artistry. The city has this unique blend of nature and urban life.
