Meet Toya T of All over Houston Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toya T

Hi Toya , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in media and entertainment began at Texas Southern University, where I earned a Master’s degree in Digital Media and Professional Communications. I was fortunate to learn from remarkable professors, including industry veteran Matthew Knowles, who recognized my star potential early on. His guidance was invaluable, and I took his advice to heart, using it to shape my career path.

I started independently shooting music videos for local artists, which led to roles as a manager and publicist. As I gained experience, I began building my personal brand, Toya T, through marketing, event promotion, and hosting. A pivotal moment in my career came when I made an appearance in a music video—this unexpectedly opened the door to podcasting.

My radio podcast show, The Drop, became a platform for both independent and mainstream artists, as well as entrepreneurs. The demand for interviews skyrocketed, firmly planting me in the music industry. As my portfolio expanded, I added acting, independent film and video production, directing, writing, editing, and content creation to my resume.

Today, I’m focused on Toya T Exclusive, my latest show where I conduct in-depth interviews, feature guest co-hosts discussing diverse topics, and provide event recaps. As a media correspondent, I also cover exclusive events, giving audiences an inside look at the industry. STR8 Drop, a spin-off of The Drop, offers mini intro interviews across all industries, introducing audiences to emerging brands and talent.

Beyond my on-screen presence, I’ve launched my own independent media company, Major Grind Media. Our mission is to produce innovative, high-quality content and contribute to making Texas a powerhouse in media production. As a growing business in Houston, we’re committed to pushing the industry forward and elevating Texas as a leader in the evolving world of media and entertainment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. My passion for media production and entertainment makes every hurdle worth it. Along the way, I’ve faced betrayal, dishonesty, theft, sabotage, and even had business taken from me. But each setback was a lesson—part of the industry’s reality and the different levels one must navigate. These experiences shaped me, teaching me resilience and the importance of having tough skin. If you can’t handle the struggles at a smaller scale, you won’t be ready for greater success. Growth comes from learning, adapting, and pushing forward, no matter the obstacles.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am deeply immersed in all things media and entertainment. In this industry, there are inevitable highs and lows, and I’ve learned that versatility is key. To thrive, you must be knowledgeable in every aspect, and I embrace it all because this is my passion.

What sets me apart is my dynamic, powerful voice and infectious energy—when you hear me, there’s no mistaking who I am. My greatest pride comes from my growth and the diverse skill set I’ve developed, allowing me to navigate and excel in this ever-evolving industry.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time with my siblings, letting our wild imaginations run free. Our dad was very protective of us since we were all girls, so we didn’t go outside much. Instead, we created our own fun indoors, turning ordinary objects into anything we could dream up.

I still laugh when I think about it—pretending to be hairstylists with clothes on our heads as hair, “smoking” crayons, using plates as steering wheels, and banging a frisbee like a tambourine. Those moments were pure joy, and looking back, I realize they planted the seeds for my creativity and passion for entertainment.
