Today we’d like to introduce you to Envy Room
Hi Envy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Eli Hopeful (Eli Rodriguez) has been working at a pawn shop in Deer Park, TX for the past three years. In early 2023, he met Kevin Impulse (Kevin Cox) and Johnny Valentine (John Velarde) on separate occasions, who were just looking around the store. Eli took an interest in the gentlemen when they asked about the store’s music gear, and invited them to join his band.
Not long after, Eli contacted his childhood friend looking for a rehearsal space, and he was generous enough to let the band use his upholstery shop. The band spent at least a year practicing back to back with no PA or adequate instruments at that shop. A few months in, and the band met Rizzio (Mauricio Flores) online, and asked him to join the band.
The band scrapped as much money as they could, and headed to the studio in late 2023, where they started recording their debut EP “So Far Away”. The band struggled to keep up with personal lives, jobs and practice. Finally, in February 2024, Envy Room played their first show at Dan Electro’s, and released their debut single “Never Let Go”.
As of the writing of this, Envy Room has been together for more than a year, and has played a total of 23 concerts in the year of 2024 in most of the underground venues in Houston. “So Far Away”, their debut EP, released in December 2024 after a lengthy year of recording and performing. The band has a total of six tracks out and four music videos.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Envy Room was built on four ambitious gentlemen balancing their personal life, family, their guitarist working 12 hour night shifts, financial troubles, and their faith for their music. The band is extremely proud of what they have accomplished and will continue to accomplish despite the struggles that come their way.

We are a punk rock band from Houston, TX.
Envy Room specializes in writing fast and strong original music. It’s difficult to note what sets us apart from other striving musicians, but I believe us making our dream work besides our struggles is what sets us apart from others. We are proud of playing more than 20 shows in 2024 all over Houston, and releasing our debut EP.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There’s a small resurgence of alternative music going on among younger folks, as well as the younger generation dressing up a decade behind. We believe our music can land among the same stars of rock and alternative music that influenced us long ago, which has become the music that is influencing them now.
