Conversations with Chicoselfie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chicoselfie

Hi Chicoselfie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
This project originated in a different band called KMET where Alex Camet was the singer then he started bringing along other Latino musician to colaborate and create the vision and sound we were looking for this is the time where Tomas Volpi came down to Austin from Argentina came in the picture and he started composing and arraigning with Alex , South American sounds combined with Mexican were really leading to the sound we were looking for, that led to the creation of Chicoselfie

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not the smoothest. As a Latino band, people expect us to play traditional music from certain areas. Like cumbia, Tejano, etc. But the Austin scene and bands from other genres welcomed us, and we found our place in the scene. We’re happy to represent Austin at SXSW as a latin band and with other latinx fellows.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a mix of South American and Central American sounds under the umbrella of synth-pop and rock. The shows have presented blended genres that everybody that shows up and can feel familiar somehow with our sounds.

What does success mean to you?
Success is to express ourselves through our art and to inspire other generations to come. It is not about economic success but how we influence the future of our culture and keep enriching it.
