Check Out Jennifer Harrup’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Harrup

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After closing my wedding planning business in 2019 (ironically right before the pandemic) I started making over our new home with the intention to share it on my blog and Instagram. Little did I know the boredom we would all face in the pandemic would lead to the rise of Tiktok and short form video content. I found myself filming videos instead of taking photos. Editing together 20-30 second clips of room makeovers that were getting millions of views on Tiktok while the blog post I spent 5+ hours writing and putting together was lucky to get 5k views. I knew I wanted to be a blogger and content creator, but I didn’t realize just how different that job would come to look in the next five years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Creating content for an internet where you can’t possibly predict what will hold their attention for more than 5 seconds is incredibly challenging. One day they are obsessed with the DIY mural that you’re painting in your living room, but a few days later the algorithm has shifted, the masses are now watching someone else…more mindful, more demure perhaps. The DIY mural project isn’t even finished yet, but everyone has moved on and I’m left wondering what my next project will be that may catch their attention again. It can be incredibly difficult to constantly stay motivated to continue creating when you’re not sure anyone will be paying attention. But thus is the challenge of being a content creator in 2025- I’ll never tire of coming up with a new idea for a project!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In the last few years I’ve been known for several projects in the online design community and if I happened to hold your attention for more than 60 seconds Tiktok may have even paid me for catching your attention. I originally became somewhat notorious for painting over my granite countertops to look like marble (people either LOVED or reviled that project). My son Lincoln’s room makeover went viral and was featured on People Magazine. My dining room and primary bedroom makeover got people’s attention and everyone loved to compare my interiors to sets of the popular Netflix show Bridgerton. All while in the background I showed every project, every idea, every thrift store run that made those projects possible. People that didn’t know me would pop by when a project went viral and go “it must be nice to be rich” and then my next video about my top 5 favorite Facebook marketplace finds that were essential to that last project would get no views and the masses were none the wiser.

My goal with my page is to inspire my followers to make over their own homes and show them that with a little elbow grease, imagination, and a lot of thrifting it’s possible! You don’t need a huge budget to turn your home into a place that you’re proud of. And despite the masses not watching the full video or not understanding the entire context of the project- there is a small core of my followers who know, who care, and really really pay attention. They will be the ones who come to read this article, they’re the ones I talk to in my Instagram Stories everyday, who send me Christmas cards of their families. They really know me and I love them for that.
