Daily Inspiration: Meet Mariam Boahemaa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Boahemaa

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As an African immigrant child the plan was to go to college and become an engineer, doctor or a Lawyer as expected by my parents and the community, so i did just that, but after a degree in Mechanical engineering and a job as an electrical 3D part designer, i felt unfulfilled. It was as if something was missing, i had no passion for what i was doing, i sat on a desk in front of a computer all day and hated my life. So i decided to look for a job outside of engineering and was able to secure a management position in operations at amazon, this was where i built my confidence as i worked with people from all walks of life, i realized that i enjoyed getting to know and learning about people, food, culture and places. I worked 12 hour shifts 4 days so this meant i had 3 days off from work, during my days off i would travel locally or around the world and share my experiences on social media, eventually i started to build an audience on instagram, getting viewers and followers who enjoyed my content. All of a sudden everything began to make sense, i loved visiting aesthetic spots, restaurants, museums , local businesses and creating content for my viewers and also helping them find things to do. I moved to Houston because i realized there’s lots of opportunities for content creators and influencers like myself, i started working with local businesses like art clubs, museums, restaurants and aesthetic spots and this brings me joy. I think i found my purpose in life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was a bumpy road, my biggest challenge was keeping my full time job and working on my passion on my days off. Sometimes i wanted to give up because i saw no results at the beginning stages of content creation, i was also mentally and physically drained from working 12 hour shifts, there was barely any views or followers on my content and staying consistent was almost impossible, the only thing that kept me going was my love for adventure and exploration

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator and an influencer based in the Houston Area, offering bucket list places, things to do, vacation ideas, and restaurant reviews. I also promote local businesses by making reels, photos and videos for their social campaigns. I am most proud of taking the biggest risk of quitting my engineering career and pursuing my true passion and purpose , putting my happiness first, Am also proud of taking the risk to travel the world as a female solo traveler, had best moments in my life traveling solo. My resilience and adventurous nature sets me apart from others, i am willing to take the risk and put in the work, i also genuinely love exploring people, places and culture.
