Meet Lydia Lomelin of Magnolia Prep

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Lomelin

Hi Lydia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I met in culinary school, where we spent three years honing our skills and completing our internships—he even interned at a Michelin-star restaurant, while I trained in a Michelin Guide restaurant. After culinary school, we worked in the restaurant industry for years, always knowing that one day we wanted to start our own business.

He spent three years as a chef at a meal prep company in San Diego, and when we moved here, we finally took the leap to build our dream. We started Magnolia Prep in our own kitchen, delivering meals ourselves, and now we’re proud to have an amazing team by our side.

Our love for food, passion for quality, and years of experience have brought us to where we are today, and we’re beyond excited for what’s ahead!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy at all. When we started Magnolia Prep, we were also juggling two side jobs—so whenever we weren’t working those, we were cooking, managing clients, answering emails, planning routes, handling deliveries—every little detail mattered. On top of that, we’re parents, which added another layer of responsibility.

So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been a journey we’ve embraced. Through every challenge, we’ve grown as a company and as individuals. We truly believe that ‘We can do all things through Christ,’ and that faith has kept us moving forward every step of the way.

We’ve been impressed with Magnolia Prep, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Magnolia Prep is a meal prep company specializing in balanced, healthy, yet delicious food—focused on high protein and low carb meals. When we created this company, we knew we didn’t want to offer the typical bland ‘diet food.’ As chefs, we simply couldn’t create something boring. Instead, we set out to craft flavorful, high-quality meals that help people reach their health goals without sacrificing taste.

What sets us apart is our commitment to freshness and quality—we keep everything local, from sourcing our ingredients to handling deliveries, ensuring the best experience for our customers. We cook with passion, pouring in all the skills we learned in culinary school and our years of experience in the restaurant industry.

But beyond great food, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. We want them to feel valued, not just like another order number. From the meals we create to the customer service we provide, our goal is to make Magnolia Prep more than just a meal prep company—it’s a community built on quality, passion, and care.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Our family has been our biggest support system from the very beginning. They have been our cheerleaders, always encouraging us to keep pushing forward. My mother-in-law, in particular, has been incredible—helping with our daughters and making sure we can focus on growing Magnolia Prep.

Our friends and family have also played a huge role in keeping us motivated. This journey hasn’t been easy, but knowing we have people who love and support us makes all the difference. Their belief in us and our vision keeps us going every day, and we are beyond grateful for them.
