Conversations with Deseree Simone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deseree Simone

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Deseree’ Simone, From Missouri City, Tx. I started rapping at 17 when I graduated high school. I started off just doing little freestyle covers to different songs I like. At the time, it was just something I wanted to try out. My mom ended up being very supportive and making me create a instagram and getting me to actually post my car freestyles. Overtime I just started getting good feedback and I kept doing it. A few months later I got introduced to an independent label I ended up signing to for a few years and it became a real career. I quit my jobs and was just full time in the studio. Overtime I hit different milestones, like the #HtownForrealChallenge, #InmyActChallenge #SoSodefFemaleCypher with Jermaine Dupri, #AintTalkinBoutNothing Female Cypher with Trae The Truth. A few years later I separated from the label and became an independent artist and ever since I haven’t stopped. Also dating a man who’s also been in the industry (Big Bad Kab ) for such a long time he’s been a pivotal part in keeping me going in the right direction music wise!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the hardest thing was navigating how to be an independent artist without a team, for the simple fact that I signed to a label so quick after starting my Car Freestyles. It was difficult to navigate but also a humbling, teaching experience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Female rapper, who specializes in painting a picture with my words or telling a story if you will. I’m most proud of just being myself and being true to myself story. Never giving up, and always shinning through any and every storm. I’d say being Raw and still relatable yet not trying to follow the wave of what’s trendy all the time is something that sets me apart. I’m always going to give it to you real, not just to fit in with the “norm”

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’m actually like an introvert extrovert. I think what’s worked best for me is having a significant other in my corner that’s always pushing me to get out and push my brand. Having people in your corner regardless that believe in you is enough to make you want to just go after your dream even if you think it’s too big it’s never too big! Overtime everything you’re meant to be apart of will find you. You don’t have to do the most to try to be seen. It’s going to happen regardless.
