Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Beckford
Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved the creative field- from photography to writing and content creation, the arts are truly my calling. I invested in a professional camera and started TravelbugBecks in 2017. From there I got my now husband, friends and family to help me with photoshoots, I collared with photographers and when solo, used my tripod to capture as much content as I good. My content focused on travel, fashion and food, with a bit of lifestyle sprinkled in between. I started in Barbados where I grew up and continued creating when I moved to Toronto in 2018. I’ve worked with brands in a range of industries, from Skincare & Beauty to Retail, Tourism and Food & Beverage. Recently, I started a Home interiors page (@daniellebeckfordhome), which allows me to tap into my love for home decor and all things diy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been steady. Being able to dedicate all my time to content creation has been challenging, since I’ve worked a 9-5 for the majority of time my brand has been alive. Consistency is important as well as the quality my content, so although I take my breaks as needed, I focus on producing authentic content that feels good for the soul and resonates with who it’s supposed to resonate with. Accepting that not everything is for everyone and finding my tribe has been rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I curate stories around fashion, travel adventures, things to do and places to eat around the world. I love editing videos and have been the ‘go-to’ photo editor for my friends. I bring a unique perspective and eye to my content, based on my Caribbean background and exposure to different cultures from living in 3 different countries. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, from being featured in magazines in the Caribbean and North America, to working with various photographers and brands in diverse industries (Tourism, Food & Beverage, Retail, Skincare and Beauty) and watching the transition of my content through the different seasons of my life. I recently started another page (@daniellebeckfordhome) which shares my love for home decor and diy projects. Content creation is a form of therapy and escapism for me.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Community is important- we’ve taken this for granted and Covid showed us just how necessary human connection is. It also gave me time to sit and be still in my thoughts and self-reflect. So as awful as it time as it was globally, I’ve learnt some valuable lessons from that period.
