Today we’d like to introduce you to Mateo
Hi Mateo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Noisegate started when I (Mateo) left my previous band Tracing Paces.
When my band was around, we used to play frequently with Lincoln’s band (Zephyr Island) so, upon my departure I made sure to go watch Zephyr to go see my friend and, the idea of collaborating with Lincoln hit me while I watched them play so, I asked him jokingly but to my surprise he said yes.
That’s how Noisegate started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most other bands, the biggest struggles come from issues outside of the music, ours was scheduling and timing.
However, we persevere and manage to make the most out of weekly rehearsal sessions.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Noisegate in particular is a Dead rock band and makes music.
Dead Rock is a term that was coined because we derive influences from a dead/dying era of music which we would like to reimagine and preserve.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Do What You Like.
It’s so easy to force yourself to learn things you aren’t inspired by which might help but, will end up draining your creativity and making you NOT want to do what makes you passionate.
