Today we’d like to introduce you to Billyne Piquion.
Hi Billyne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been a creative, my journey started in music which is interesting because there is an intimate relationship between music and writing that should be investigated. I began my writing journey around the same time I studied music in grade school. I have been writing, telling stories and expressing my emotions through the arts. From the age of 11 to now, almost three decades of experience all I know is how to write, I published my first book at the age of 20, my writing journey made me realize I had a love for storytelling in every medium which is how I ended up indulging in film.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, one of the things that people do not tell you is that you have to find people who are kind and willing enough to teach you. There are egos in the industry that get in the way of paving the road for future writers, filmmakers and storytellers. When you find a community that is big on helping you grow and learn do not let go. That is what I found here in the indie film community in Houston a big difference from back home.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of my short film, Une La Vie Meilleure that has been selected in multiple film festivals. I am known for my writing and storytelling capabilities, thinking about what sets me apart from others is my love for the complexities that is the human condition. Our emotions, thoughts are what drives us, its what makes us unpredictable, when watching a show/movie or even reading a book the main characters’ goal is what drives you to continue following their journey. Along the way you feel every emotion they have, it is beautiful and thats something I do well with my writing and I strive to take my audience through that
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I moved here 4 years ago from Miami, FL so I would say what I love most is the niche community here that is genuine and authentic, What I like least, no urban planning or infrastructure yall do not need another highway yall need sidewalks and proper public transportation.
