Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Campa.
Hi Lily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been part of my life. Growing up my parents would capture my siblings and I on their camcorders/cameras at our dance recitals, games, and moments at home playing dress up.
As I got older I was obsessed with all things vintage. So, with some leftover birthday money from my quince, I purchased my first Polaroid camera at Fry’s Electronics. My new camera sparked something in me. I knew that everywhere I went, this camera would follow. From family vacations, birthdays, and core moments in my life, I captured everything and anything.
At the age of 19, I joined the media department at my church. This kickstarted my journey in a more professional manner. Digital cameras were now in my rotation too. Every Sunday morning with my parent’s Nikon, I was able to learn more about the composition of photography.
I have since indulged in film and digital photography. I figured I’d share them somehow, so in December of 2021 I created an instagram account dedicated to displaying my Polaroids. Incorporating my name Lily and Polaroids, I decided to go with ‘Polilroids’.
I was inspired by the photographers I began following and decided I’d try concert photography.
Later, in September of 2024, I took my Polaroid camera to a Braxton Keith concert and shot a couple of Polaroids of him and his band. I came in contact with his media director Zach and was then invited to shoot at his next show! It only solidified my passion for photography. Within these last few months I’ve had the opportunity to capture some of my favorite artists, and even had my work featured on former F1 driver Daniel Riccardo’s website for ‘Enchante’ and I was fortunate enough to take photos at Houston Rodeo’s Hideout.
I can’t help but be grateful for all the opportunities I’ve received since then. It couldn’t have been done without my family and friends supporting me and God opening those doors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been challenges, such as learning which film works best in a dark setting, what equipment I should invest in and film just being pricey. The more events I shoot at, I meet other photographers and take advice from them which has really helped me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I capture concerts, brand photos, and portraits. I specialize in digital and analog photography, always experimenting with film. I am mostly proud of my Polaroids. It’s magical being able to have a moment printed in time and having it in your hands. I’ve had the honor of taking photos for artists and sometimes it’s their first time in Houston so having been able to capture moments like those are rewarding.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
For anyone who is debating on starting in photography or anything you’re really passionate about. Send that email. Send that Dm. You’re never going to know what may come from it until you put yourself out there. I have been able to achieve some things I never would have imagined possible these last few months if I had not done so.
