Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Juarez.
Hi Kathy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a proud fur-mama to five amazing dogs, and we were just about to celebrate the first birthday of three of them! In preparation, my family and I were gathering party supplies—yes, we are extra like that! As I was blowing up balloons and arranging them in a quad, I realized how much fun and entertaining it was. Later that evening, while scrolling through YouTube, one of the first recommendations that popped up was a tutorial on balloon garlands by Sharpe Designs by Lakeisha. After watching the video, I was hooked, and I bought my first Amazon balloon kit. While it wasn’t the highest quality, it definitely kick-started my journey into the world of balloon artistry.
During this time, I had been furloughed from my previous job due to the global pandemic, and I was unsure of what the future held for me. So, I decided to bring my new craft to life and created Airy Moments x Kathy. What started as a simple hobby quickly blossomed into something I’ve become passionate about.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said it has been an easy journey for me. Even after almost five-years, I still face challenges. One of the biggest—and still occasional— struggles is the feeling of self-doubt. In the beginning of my journey, I often questioned whether I was truly cut out for this. I doubted my skills, especially since I was still learning and experimenting with balloon styling. Self-doubt made me second-guess myself, whether it was about a new design or the overall quality of my work.
Over time, I realized that this was a normal part of growth, and instead of letting it hold me back, I started using it as a tool to motivate me to improve. I had to be reminded that every setback was a learning opportunity. I also continuously lean on the support of my loved ones, who keep me grounded and continue to encourage me to be better.
Another obstacle has been dealing with inconsistent clientele. In the event business, it is normal to have periods of high demand and slower times, but the unpredictability can be tough. There are months where business is “poppin'”, and there are times where it feels like there are no inquiries.
However, I’ve learned to diversify my services and am working to build stronger relationships with my clients and followers. I’ve become more proactive in my marketing efforts and have found creative ways to stay top of mind for potential customers. While the unpredictability is still there, it’s become more manageable as I adapt and continue to learn from the challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in balloon styling for any occasion, whether it’s birthdays, weddings, graduations, or celebrations of any kinds. My focus is on creating unique, custom balloon designs that elevate and adds a vibrant touch to any event. I love experimenting with with different shapes, textures, and colors to make each creation distinct to each occasion and client.
What I am most proud of is how much my creativity and techniques has evolved over time. When I first started, I was learning on the go, taking various classes to improve my technique and find more efficient ways of styling. Now, I have established a solid foundation for working efficiently. While I haven’t yet discovered my signature style or technique, I feel confident in my progress.
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering focus on attention to detail and prioritizing my clients’ vision. I believe that understanding their individual preferences and ensuring every aspect of the work is tailored to them is key to creating a truly personalized and high-quality experience. This dedication allows me to consistently deliver results that exceed expectations, and I’m excited to continue growing and bringing my clients’ visions to life.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Celebrations never stop, and I see the balloon and event industry evolving with a growing focus on customization. Trends may change, but creativity continues to thrive! People are always looking for fresh, new, and exciting ideas to make their events unforgettable.
As the industry continues to evolve, I’m dedicated to providing exceptional experiences for my clients. Stay tuned for more updates – Airy Moments is growing!
