Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenneisha Brown
Hi Tenneisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, my real estate journey began a little a year ago when I left my career in education. I was having a hard time finding employment so I told myself if no one is going to hire me- I would create my own opportunities!
As I embark on my year one in real estate, the biggest thing that has helped get me to where I am today is having faith and a having vision of my future. In real estate, everything is unpredictable and can change at any given moment. This type of unpredictability requires an immense amount of faith and the unwavering believe that everything is going to work out for my good. It forced me to become comfortable with pivoting after rejection and seeing denial as a not yet. For the challenging days, I rely on my vision for the future to keep me motivated and on track with walking in my purpose. When I close my eyes, I can envision myself doing many things such speaking on panels, becoming a top producing agent in Texas, and educating realtors on scaling their real estate business etc. Having a clear idea of who I want to become motivates me to work harder, show up to networking events weekly, attending seminars/webinars weekly to gain more knowledge, and to simply be 1% better each day until I am who I aspire to be.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Real estate has definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve had a few transactions that were smooth as butter but the rest keeps me on my toes. Most days I feel like I’m in a reality tv show and being an empath definitely doesn’t help!
In the beginning of my career, I’d get frustrated but now I gladly take on the challenging transaction and get excited when able to learn something new from them. In real estate, or with life in general, you have to seek the information for yourself. You have to be vulnerable with seeking knowledge and asking questions even when you feel like its silly or makes you feel inexperienced. Most recently, I was working with a client and after a few weeks of searching we’d finally found her a home in a new construction community. We applied with the new construction lender only to find out she was denied AND we would not be able to get funding from the lender who’d initially pre-approved her. I immediately reached out to another lender who was able to preapprove her but her mortgage payment was going to be at over $300 more than we anticipated. I began to call around and started asking questions from the lenders for clarity because I was not going to give up on my client that easily or get her into a home she would not be able to afford. Through asking questions, I found out if I looked at homes with a lower tax rate and lower HOA fees, I could find my client the perfect home with a low mortage payment and that’s exactly what we did. Not only did she find her dream home, but she received all of her closing cost covered, all appliances included in the sale, and an interest rate almost 3% lower than what we were initially going to get.
Every transaction is a learning experience. Whether it’s helping a first time homebuyer, guiding sellers through the negotiation process, or helping a client get into a lease, I am learning and developing daily as a realtor.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Houston-based realtor specializing in helping first-time homebuyers purchase their dream homes and guiding sellers through the home selling process for a fast sale. I am best known for finding the latest homebuying grants and downpayment programs throughout the city of Houston. I do not believe in gatekeeping and I gets so excited learning about new programs and finding new ways to make homeownership attainable. Most recently, I came across a program catered to buyers with no credit history such as someone who is new to the country or a recent college graduate. With this program, not only are they able to buy a home with no credit history but they can qualify for an additional $8000 grant and they won’t have to pay a down payment! What sets me apart is I take pride in identifying programs that meet client’s unique needs. My goal is to provide the resources and guidance to turn homeownership dreams into reality.
One thing I am really proud of is the work I’ve been doing on my social media. This month alone I brought in over 50,000 views with my content and have been able to grow my business using social media. This is a huge milestone for me as 80% of my business is generated from social media! I’m so excited for my future and the success to come! I envision myself daily speaking on panels and continuing to spread my knowledge on real estate on different platforms.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that may surprise others about me is that, despite being outgoing and frequently engaging in networking events, I can be introverted at times. While I enjoy connecting with people, I still have moments of anxiety in large social settings where I have to put myself out there. To push through, I always give myself a pep talk before each event and remind myself of my goals and responsibilities—because at the end of the day, I’m working towards the life I desire and my bills have to get paid! I’ve been able to make great connections through networking that has allowed me to be invited to speak on webinars and at seminars. Discomfort is a part of growth and my ambition has to outweigh my anxiety.
