Today we’d like to introduce you to King Nwaozuru
Hi King, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
What started as simple curiosity three years ago has now become my greatest passion. It all began when I noticed a camera sitting at my parents’ house. Intrigued, I picked it up and started experimenting, capturing moments at family and friend gatherings. As people began asking if I was a photographer, I always answered with a humble “no”—at least, at the time.
Already working in the event industry through photo booths, I frequently crossed paths with professional photographers. One particular vendor, whom I regularly saw at events, became a pivotal influence in my journey. Over time, our conversations deepened, and he eventually invited me to his photography studio.
During that visit, I saw firsthand how photography had transformed his life—giving him the freedom to travel, meet new people, and pursue endless opportunities. He shared how the industry offered more than just creativity; it provided a fulfilling and dynamic career. That conversation gave me a fresh perspective, and in that moment, I realized photography was more than just a hobby—it was my calling.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to refining my craft, building meaningful relationships, and turning my passion into a profession. My journey is far from over, but every step reaffirms that I am exactly where I am meant to be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey in the photography industry has been anything but smooth. Like any creative profession, it comes with its own set of challenges. In the beginning, I struggled with building a solid client base and establishing my brand in a highly competitive market.
Learning the technical aspects of photography—such as lighting, composition, and post-processing—was a steep learning curve, but mastering the business side was just as demanding. Pricing my services appropriately, marketing effectively, and managing client expectations all required trial and error. There were moments of self-doubt, especially when facing slow seasons or comparing my work to others.
However, each challenge became a learning opportunity, pushing me to refine my skills, improve my business strategies, and develop my unique style. Through persistence, networking, and a passion for storytelling, I’ve been able to turn obstacles into growth and continue progressing in this ever-evolving industry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in portrait and event photography, with a growing passion for wedding photography. Additionally, I have been expanding my expertise in videography. One of the aspects I take the most pride in is collaborating with my clients—bringing their vision to life and ensuring that every detail is executed with precision.
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating meaningful experiences rather than simply providing a service. For me, photography is more than just a business; it’s about capturing moments that my clients will cherish for a lifetime. I strive to make every session enjoyable and memorable, ensuring that my clients are just as excited to see the final product as I am to create it.
To add a personal touch, I offer each client a Polaroid print of their favorite shot at the end of their session. In an age where digital images dominate, I believe having a tangible photograph brings back a sense of nostalgia and makes the experience even more special. It’s those little details that create lasting memories, and that’s what I aim to provide with every shoot.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me truly happy in photography is the ability to capture moments that people can cherish forever. Seeing a client’s genuine reaction—whether it’s excitement, joy, or even tears—when they see their photos is incredibly rewarding. I get excited when a burst of self-confidence takes over my clients and they get inspired to try new poses. I love the creative process of bringing a vision to life, from planning the shoot to capturing the perfect shot and refining it in post-production.
Photography allows me to meet new people, hear their stories, and be a part of their most important milestones. Whether it’s a portrait session, an event, or a wedding, knowing that my work helps preserve memories and emotions makes every challenge worth it. It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about creating an experience and delivering something meaningful that my clients will treasure for years to come.
