Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna Martinez.
Hi Arianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I could talk and walk, I’ve been singing and dancing. I’ve always loved making people smile and entertaining them. My mom wanted me to be a ballerina, but that wasn’t really my thing. We tried tap and jazz, but they didn’t click with me either. Then I tried gymnastics for a while, but it wasn’t my passion. Finally, I asked to take hip-hop dance classes, and that’s when I found my true love. I grew up in a hip-hop household, so it felt natural to me. I joined a professional dance team and my love for hip-hop grew even more. One day, I discovered that my dad used to rap when a video of his popped up on YouTube. I had no idea! I was amazed and wanted to learn more. I asked my dad to teach me how to rap, but he didn’t take me serious at first. Eventually, he let me record a song in the studio, and I did it in one take. My uncle gave me the nickname ONE TAKE K, and that motivated me to keep improving. That’s when Classic Kiki was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the struggles I had to deal with was figuring out how to put on a really awesome show and impress a brand new audience every time. It takes a lot of practice, sometimes I spend weeks getting ready before I perform. School has been a bit tricky too. My classmates didn’t know I was into rapping, I kept it on the down low. When they found out, some of them weren’t too happy about it and even stopped being my friend. But on the bright side, my teachers have been my #1 hype queens. They’ve are super supportive and help me balance school and my music. Shout out to my biggest cheerleader Mrs. Johnson. Even though some people didn’t believe in me, I’ve had a lot of people show me love and support. I don’t let the haters bring me down, I just keep working hard and I’ve earned my respect as an artist. When you’re a kid, sometimes people don’t take you serious so you have to work extra hard. I know I make it look easy, but the journey here was definitely not a walk in the park!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hip hop kid who loves old-school rap and is known for my awesome rap lyrics. I made history as the first kid to be featured on BARZ ON WHEELS, a huge hip hop platform in California. The video of my performance is still blowing up online and people are really vibing with me. I’m also an actress, and you can see me playing Rosie in Alamo City Zombie soon. I’m proud of all the different things I can do, like acting and rapping. What makes me stand out is that I have my own unique style. I don’t sound like other artists from Houston – my style is more classic hip hop with southern flavor. My lyrics are what really make me special and different from everyone else. Kiki got bars!!!
