Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Gibson.
Hi Mariah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first fell in love with makeup when I was 14 years old. Watching YouTube tutorials after school became like therapy for me. It gave me peace, creativity, and something to look forward to every day. I would watch YouTubers like Aaliyah Jay, Jackie Aina, NikkieTutorials, and Jaclyn Hill for hours (when I was really supposed to be doing my homework hahah sorry mom), just soaking up everything I could about technique, color, and beauty.
Eventually, I started practicing on myself, and soon my friends at school would ask me to do their makeup for proms and special events. I even became the go-to makeup artist on my dance team. On second thought, I have a couple of invoices to send from 2015 haha, just kidding. I enjoyed hearing “Hey Mariah can you do my eyeshadow” more than anything, so it never crossed my mind to think more of it.
In college, makeup remained a hobby that I loved doing on the side. It wasn’t until after I graduated that I realized it was more than just a hobby. It was a true passion that I wanted to take seriously.
Over the years, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to work with clients, help people feel beautiful for special occasions, and build experience working in beauty retail (yes, I’m a Sephora Girly). What started as a simple love for makeup has grown into a calling, and I’m excited to see how God continues to lead me on this journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With anything, there are struggles. I definitely dealt with a lot of self doubt, comparing my craft to others in the industry, and just constantly wanting to improve and grow as an artist. I also had to figure out how to balance work and school with my passion. There were moments when I wondered, “Should I keep going”. But honestly, my love for makeup and the incredible people God placed in my life to encourage me have kept me resilient.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, I’m a makeup artist, and I specialize in creating radiant, soft glam looks for special occasions like weddings, graduations, proms, and more. One thing I’m really proud of is how consistent I’ve been in sharing my work over the years and the beautiful faces I’ve had the chance to work with.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just want to do someone’s makeup and send them on their way. I want to create an experience where they feel seen, cared for, and confident. I want my clients to look in the mirror and recognize themselves…just enhanced. I want them to feel like the best version of who they already are and who they were created to be. My hope is that every woman leaves feeling radiant, with her heart flooded with confidence, and knowing just how beautiful she truly is from the inside out.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is staying aligned with God in everything I do. As a creative, there are moments where things aren’t always black and white, and it’s been my relationship with Him like ,spending time in His presence, listening for His guidance, and trusting His timing….and it’s helped me move forward with much more peace and clarity. When I’m walking closely with the Lord, I’m able to show up in the world with authenticity, creating and expressing myself in the way I was truly designed to. I also value connection and community deeply, because I know we’re not meant to do life alone…even when I when I try to. God has placed people in my life who not only encourage me, but challenge me to grow, and I’m grateful for the way they remind me to stay rooted in who I am and what I’m called to do.
