Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Bikusa.
Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey starts in Charlotte North Carolina. My Mother and father are from Congo Kinshasa and migrated to the united states in the early 90’s as they were leaving the Mobutu Regime back in Congo. I’ve spoken Lingala since I was 12 which is our home language. My aspirations were always in the business world and I created my first official revenue generating business by the time I was 13. As early as I can remember I was involved in the music business weather it was recording people at my moms house or managing childhood friends with there music careers. I got my first official job within the music business at a magazine company in Nashville by the name of Concrete 615. I was a videographer and working on interviews. From there I would move on to work with record labels, booking agencies, managing artist, and other various roles within the music business. Today I still have an active hand within the music business through my entertainment entity by the name of “World Of Karaoke”. I am a media buyer/seller as well so my expertise stays within the music business. I’ve lived in 6 different states for more than a year and California was my longest stint in my adulthood. Currently I live in Houston Texas and have aspirations of buying a home and land here. I also have aspirations of creating an ecosystem in Africa for my family.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Failure has been at every turn within my life. I believe in owning up to your failures and learning from them. Finding community when you’re a traveler is very important and I’ve made lifelong friends in my travels. My time in the music business has been amazing but it has been coupled with disappointment’s and having to adjust on a dime. I am still currently pursuing my career goals and I believe the road ahead will be smoother.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My profession is Media Sales and building brands is what I do as a long term career, My most recent brand by the name of “World Of Karaoke” is based here in Houston Texas. World Of Karaoke is an immersive experience that celebrates diversity and culture. We fuse improv singing and dancing together for an unforgettable night. My venture into media sales is fairly new but adjacent to the music business as well. I find comfort in being able to connect businesses and individuals to some of the worlds biggest platforms in order to gain exposure for there brands.
How do you think about luck?
I believe there is a small element of luck when dealing with life and its challenges. You can’t definitively say someone is lucky simply because life is an intersection. Life can take your luck in any direction it wants to go. A person can get lucky but ultimately luck is a mental construct.
