Life & Work with Jason Turner of Spring/Klein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Turner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as an artist began in childhood. With no formal training, I was driven by a natural curiosity and a deep need to create due to being engulfed by the arts within Louisiana. Art quickly became a constant in my life—a tool for observation, reflection, and expression.

A significant turning point came during my time in the military. That experience, along with the impact of personal relationships and loss, greatly influenced both my perspective and my work. It deepened my understanding of human emotion and resilience, which I now strive to convey through my art.

Today, I focus on realism utilizing oil paint. I’m drawn to its ability to capture emotional depth often shaped by the experiences that have defined my path.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, the road hasn’t been too rough. However, there are times you doubt yourself or get in your own headspace. You need a great support system and a lot of coffee to help you along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I created JHT Fine Art in 2021 and it is one of my proudest life accomplishments. I specialize in oils, painting photo realistic portraits. In my paintings, I like to convey emotions to which the viewer could relate and feel a connection.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family plays a big part in supporting my career as an artist that includes my military family as well. Mentally, I go through so many emotional roller coasters and just having my wife and kids nearby or receiving a phone call from a battle buddy can impact my day. Which in turn is portrayed in some of my artwork. Other advocates that are and have been beneficial are Artists in Arms, VA (Veterans Affairs), Gallery ONE (United Spinal Assoc. Houston), Ardest Gallery, Sawyer Yards as well as Conroe Art League. These establishments have given me a voice, via canvas, to reach out to others and impact observers in a positive way.
