Today we’d like to introduce you to Arika Carr.
Arika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my journey as a single mom, decorating my children’s birthday parties, which naturally led to family and friends hiring me for their events. Eager to grow, I attempted to start an event planning business, but I lacked the necessary business knowledge to push it forward. After COVID-19, I decided to invest in myself and relaunched my event planning business with renewed determination. Today, I proudly serve as the first female police chief in Fort Bend County while running my event planning business part time. I’m currently working to build and expand this business so I can eventually transition to working full time in it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business often involves a challenging journey, and mine was no exception. Failing at my initial attempt was undoubtedly difficult, especially given the hurdles I faced such as limited business knowledge, lack of capital, and insufficient support. These struggles are common among many entrepreneurs, and overcoming them requires resilience and perseverance.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Police Chief for the City of Arcola, and I am proud to be the first female police chief in Fort Bend County. My work revolves around leading our police department with a focus on community engagement, professionalism, and positive change.
What I specialize in is rebuilding trust and rebranding our agency to be a symbol of integrity and service. I am most proud of making history in my community and transforming a department that was once viewed with skepticism into one that residents can rely on and respect.
What sets me apart is my resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to both my community and my team. I believe that strong leadership, coupled with a genuine dedication to service, can create meaningful and lasting change
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my most cherished childhood memories is quality time with my grandparents—shucking peas together, visiting the ranch, and watching soap operas with my grandmother when I was feeling under the weather and stayed home from school.
