Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramone Dixon.
Hi Ramone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being in the wedding industry was such an interesting journey because working at the Houston Airport (Bush), so much time was invested in working the 2 jobs I worked there. If it wasn’t for my mom coming across an Ad for a company looking for DJ services for weddings and is open to training, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I also worked with Unite Here spending hours before and after working exploring the process to create a better work environment in the Food & Beverage industry. As I was a Chef at The Marriott Marquis, I still worked in the wedding industry. Most weekends, I would work a morning shift in the kitchen, leave work with my clothes and DJ gear in my car, drive occasionally in the middle of “YEE HAW” to be the best and most entertaining DJ I can be, get home late, get some sleep and get to work the next morning AND possibly, have another wedding that next day.
In late 2019 , I decided to DJ full time and with the help of EEDC Small Business Training Program in 3rd ward to help me understand and appreciate my process as DJ Ramone the company and the person.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth but I have been resilient in how confident I am about what I do and how i will continue to get better. I have been able to do events where people remember me and wanted to continue to work with me. Those companies wasn’t the best at being the best they can be to their customers and their workers. It was frustrating and had me hesitant in how to trust others BUT fortunately, there were 3 other DJ that came up in the industry with as we training together and are close friends.
The pandemic was one of the most challenging times for everyone, even as I was engaged to get married. But the main thing I was able to work on was the operational part of my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of DJ Ramone. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
DJ Ramone specializes in offering DJ and MC services as an entertainer. My innate musical intuition, coupled with the knack for engaging others, and a vibrant personality, allows me to create an atmosphere that truly lights up any room. DJ Ramone is about making music into memories and being one of the most interesting DJs that enjoy the in the city, the county, the state. I have been fortunate to DJ events of various cultures with diverse crowds of different genres with their favorite music being across different decades.
What’s next?
My plans for DJ Ramone is to host events. Being able to not only initiate an event because of my ability to play and mix music but to be the voice that people know, feel, and see that if I am present, it will be an amazing time. Being the voice of your favorite event as I galvanize and engage with the guests. I have a background in theatre so I understand what it means to project and a confidence in the way you present yourself that grasps the attention of other by making them feel welcomed and see that you are happy to be there and enjoy what you do.
