Meet Pat Wilson of The Katy News in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pat Wilson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pat. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began working for The Katy News around 2000 as a classified sales person. I answered phones, made sales and created the classified ads. I, then began building retail ads for clients. I left the company for two years. The day I got laid off from my job, the then owner George Scott called and asked if I wanted a job. I went back to work for them doing the Retail ad building and the occasionally sold an ad. I worked my way into sales.

When Anne Scott decided to go back to teaching, I picked up doing the accounting, sales and occasionally building my own ads.

In 2007, George put the paper up for sale. I then purchased the paper and began running it. In June of 2017 I had a stroke. I am fine today but had to get rid of the stress, I shut down the print portion of the news paper.
We now concentrate on Online Banners, Online Business Directory Listings, Facebook, E-Blasts and Advertorials.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. You have up years and then when the economy tanks you have bad years. It is always a struggle. Businesses are afraid to advertise especially during the hard times. However, it is during the hard times that it is the most important time to advertise.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Katy News – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We were known as the only locally owned newspaper since 1989. Since 2007, we were the only locally owned newspaper and the only woman owned one.

We are a community news source that specializes in the happenings in the Katy area. We also focus on some of the government stories by our local representatives. As a rule, we try to focus on the good things happening in the Katy area.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The friendliness of the residents of Katy is what I like the most. The rate that the city is growing is something that concerns me. There is so much new growth that we are having drainage issues and when there is a large rain event parts or all of Katy flood. The City of Katy government are working very hard to rectify these issues by strengthening the infrastructure.
