Today we’d like to introduce you to Maysha Talat.
Hi Maysha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Maysha Talat—a Bangladeshi-American esthetician, founder of Montrose Skin Club, a day spa in Montrose, and a proud Houstonian whose journey has been shaped by resilience, family, and the pursuit of self care in all its forms.
Born in 1997 in Bangladesh, I came to America in 2001, traveling with my mother and older sister to reunite with my father—whom I would meet for the very first time at age three. From customizing our MySpace pages to experimenting with hair and makeup, my sister and I shared many common interests —six years apart, yet inseparable.
Ayesha (“Moon”) blazed a trail in skincare, enrolling in esthetics in 2014 and offering to be my path finder. Then, on Mother’s Day night—May 11, 2015—our world shattered: at just 23 years old, she was tragically taken from us. My sister’s sudden death was a moment that would forever alter my life. Ayesha left behind a three-year-old daughter, Sky.
At age 17, grief could have destroyed me. Instead, I channeled my sorrow into purpose. I vowed to finish what my sister had started, enrolling in esthetics school the moment I felt able. Day by day, I built the knowledge and skills she had dreamt of—and on August 25, 2020, I passed my state board exams to become a licensed esthetician.
Two weeks later, in the midst of a global pandemic, I leased a small suite in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood. I christened it Montrose Skin Club and chose a delicate lace-moon logo in tribute to my sister’s nickname. With no existing clientele, I spent my early months offering complimentary services to friends and family, generating content to make our schedule look busy—even as I waited tables to keep my dream alive. I sought out pop-ups and small-business collaborations, believing that community would lift me higher than any solo effort.
My breakthrough came when ClassPass invited Montrose Skin Club to join their wellness platform. Overnight, my schedule went from sparse to overflowing—just when I’d been let go from my restaurant job. The surge of bookings taught me the power of visibility and the importance of strategic marketing, even more than technical skill. Today, I’ve been honored with over 120 five-star Google reviews and more than 1,000 five-star ClassPass ratings, placing us among Houston’s top-rated day spas.
Each facial I perform carries Ayesha’s spirit—her passion for connection, her love of transformation, and her belief that self-care is a revolutionary act. This May 11th marks ten years since her passing, and I’m committed to extending her legacy one skin journey at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started my entrepreneurial journey, I dove in headfirst without a clear roadmap. I opened Montrose Skin Club on a whim, with no mentor, no prior business experience, and very little guidance. Every week brought a new lesson—often learned the hard way—as I figured out what it really meant to be a small business owner. Mistakes became my greatest teachers, shaping the way I operate today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Montrose Skin Club. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Montrose Skin Club, my philosophy is simple: combine results with relaxation. As a certified acne specialist with a deep passion for lymphatic drainage and facial reflexology, I focus on treating skin holistically while also nurturing the nervous system. My goal is to create a safe, peaceful space where clients can fully relax—whether that means resting quietly or chatting openly during their treatment. For the full hour, my enchanted space is theirs to unwind in however they choose.
What sets Montrose Skin Club apart is the energy and intention behind every service. It’s not just about skincare—it’s about creating an experience that feels sacred, intuitive, and deeply personal. I often describe my facials as if I’ve taken my client by the hand and we’ve frolicked through a meadow together. That whimsical, healing energy is what I aim to bring into every session.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Skincare is vulnerable, and to be part of someone’s self-love journey is something I never take for granted. Montrose Skin Club isn’t just a business—it’s a sanctuary, and every facial is a ritual of care.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I owe so much of my success to the women in my life who paved the way for me in their own unique, powerful ways—especially my mother. Growing up, I watched her use her housewife skills to help make ends meet—whether she was catering traditional dishes from our culture or tailoring clothes for others. She turned everyday talents into income, and through her, I inherited an entrepreneurial spirit and a deep desire to be self-sufficient.
