Today we’d like to introduce you to Percy Gaston.
Hi Percy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Passion often starts at home, and for me, that passion was sparked in the family kitchen. As a child, I helped my aunt and mother prepare meals, always assigned the task of chopping onions and bell peppers. But beyond the chopping board, I was absorbing the essence of cooking—watching, learning, and developing a deep love for the craft.
That love for cooking followed me into adulthood, even through my time in the U.S. Army, which I joined in 2010. My first duty station was Fort Irwin, California, in the middle of the Mojave Desert, where good home-cooked meals were hard to come by. The longing for familiar flavors led me to frequently call home, asking my mom and aunt for recipes. With each call, each recipe, and each meal prepared, they sharpened my skills—eventually mastering the dishes and adding my own unique twists.
When I returned home, friends and family raved about my cooking. Time and time again, I heard the same words: “You should sell this!” With that encouragement and a leap of faith, I began taking bookings, sharing food with more than just family and friends. What started as a passion turned into a business, and today, Fingatipcookin is a veteran-owned LLC with a growing customer base.
The journey has now taken an even bigger step forward with the recent purchase of my first food truck. This milestone marks a new chapter—one filled with more events, more customers, and more opportunities to bring mouthwatering flavors to the community.
What started as a kid in the kitchen has transformed into a full-fledged business. Fingatipcookin is more than just food; it’s a story of dedication, resilience, and the power of pursuing what you love.
You can follow Fingatipcookin on Instagram and TikTok (@Fingatipcookin) to keep up with their journey and see where the food truck will be next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have not encountered significant challenges or obstacles in my experience as a business owner, thanks to the tremendous support I’ve received along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I was born and raised in Houston, TX and I take pride in that. I love everything about my city and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
