Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Lee.
Hi Tori, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a native Houstonian and I still live in the area. I am married and my Husband and I will be celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary this year. We have 2 adult Sons together and are small business owners. I am a tall Woman. I am 6’1″ and I LOVE my height. I wouldn’t change one thing about it. I am often asked if I played any sports when I was in school and I did not. I am a part time content creator. I basically tell tall Women where I shop for tall Women clothes and shoes. It’s not like we (tall Women) can just run into the mall or a big box retailer and grab something off the rack that will fit or flatter our body types. When I am not running our business or telling tall Women where to shop, I enjoy spending time with my guys! I enjoy watching Football. The Houston Texans are my favorite NFL team. I enjoy volunteering, silly dance breaks, reading, & singing in the shower. Off key of course. I love surprises and trying new things. I love traveling. I have traveled to 42 cities, 11, states, 9 countries, & 3 continents. I always like to say that some of my “best stories are found between the pages of my passport.” Author is unknown. A couple of fun facts about me is that I am left-handed and an August Leo. Translation, I’m extra, extra!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that some of my challenges have almost always involved my height. Imagine being a tall preteen in the 80’s. All of my shorter friends were wearing all the cute and cool clothing. While I was stuck wearing jeans that were too short and a men’s shirt. Sticking out like a sore thumb, towering over everyone, in ill fitting clothing. Oh joy! I was taller than most of my elementary school teachers and over six feet tall since 8th grade. I would come home from school crying with my head hanging low because someone teased me or said something mean to me about my clothes or height. My Mom (who was like 5’1″), would grab my chin & tilt my head up. She never let me feel bad about my height. Her favorite thing to say to me was that “people are going to talk about you EVEN when you are dead and gone. Let them talk!” I carry those words with me daily. By the time I reached high school, the “ugly duckling” was a beautiful swan. I was outgoing, smart, beautiful, and I took no crap! I am still that way today. I look back at my life and think to myself, I am so blessed and grateful! I grew up in a two Parent household with hard working, patient, and loving Parents. They taught me the importance of always being myself. They are truly the reason I am the Woman I am today.
There are tall Women who actually hate being tall. They go day to day and try to blend in. They shrink themselves in photos and in real life. There are also tall Women who are not even tall Women (yet). Some are a tall 10 year old like I was or tall teenagers that are being teased or approached by strangers and asked their height. If you fit this category or if you are still shrinking yourself and you are reading this article, I would like for you to know that you are beautiful just the way you are. If no one else tells you, I love your height!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
A few years ago, I used to be in about 5-7 tall girl Facebook groups. I would post my outfits a few times a week in these groups just to give the tall Ladies in the group a different set of options to shop from. Some of the Women in these groups were posting tall clothing from big box retailers or fast fashion brands and some were frustrated that their clothes were arriving too short, poor quality, or both. I tried to bring some different options to the groups as I prefer to support the independently owned tall brands. These are brands that are not only independently owned, they are often tall Women Owners offering tall clothing and/or extended size shoes just for tall Women. It doesn’t get much better than that! I am a very happy customer and proud to support them!
After a while of being in the Facebook groups, the “I hate my height” posts and the debate over tall Women not wanting to date anyone shorter than them started becoming a bit unpleasant for me. So, I left all the Facebook groups and started posting my outfits on Instagram about 4 years ago. While these groups are so supportive and a great outlet for tall Women who need to vent their frustrations. I truly love being a tall Woman. I love my height and my Husband of nearly 30 years is shorter than me. So I just didn’t find the groups beneficial for me anymore. Sometimes you outgrow things and that is ok.
This June I will be celebrating 4 years of 6FootaBae. My Instagram is an honest platform and I’m very proud of that. It’s where tall Women can come to find support, clothing suggestions that actually fit, and honest reviews. It’s very important to me that with so much fake stuff and misinformation floating around social media, that I can just be myself. Currently, I only post twice a week. Tuesday and Fridays. I’m not on Instagram to be famous. I’m not on Instagram to be rich. I’m on Instagram for the tall 10 year old’s and teens. I’m on Instagram for tall Women who need a genuine person to tell them the truth about certain tall clothing items. About 90% of my page is not sponsored. Meaning I can operate it however I want to. I am very particular about who I decide to partner with. I decline more offers than I accept for various reasons. I am grateful for my followers. I am also very proud of the space that I’ve built in the little corner of the web. Check me out today!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God. Hebrews 11:6
