Today we’d like to introduce you to George and Lois Hayden.
George and Lois, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Married in 1973 Boston mass, stationed in North Carolina we sold motorcycles in our front yard left the Marine Corps in 1974. A poor east coast economy sent us to south Louisiana where I took a job working off shore and we invested in rental properties. In 1980, we sold out and moved to Texas where we bought a snap on tool franchise and Lois attended nursing school and became an RN.
In 2005, snap on would no longer honor our agreement so I went to sell BMWs Lois got her master’s degree. We both rose to the top of our fields. Tired of the corporate world in 2016 we opened island silver.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business from scratch is always a struggle. We enjoyed immediate acceptance by the local folks. Had a little set back with hurricane Harvey but we cleaned up and reopened
Island Silver – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Island Silver is the gulf coast’s premiere sterling silver jewelry store. With thousands of pieces in stock from all over the world. Prices starting at four dollars to several thousand dollars. There is something for everyone.
Being married since 1973 we are a family business and so proud to have our grandchildren are taking interest and helping out in the store
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We are both the same type of people hard working, and three to five mile daily runners. We rest easy at night knowing we have worked hard and treated everyone fairly and with respect.

George Hayden is an excellent fellow and fine businessman. He was a highly regarded distributor at Snap-On, and was always at the top of his team at BMW/ Group 1 Automotive. He and his sweetie are excellent, indeed.

Stopped by here today on a dismal and cold day and found, for real, a silver lining. What an incredible shop. We were greeted by a wonderful, sweet dog and his owner. I am impressed with the array of fabulous silver jewelry available. My other half bought a couple of fairly inexpensive rings and we will both be back. It’s a bit further to drive to than Silverlust in Houston, but certainly worth the drive.
