Today we’d like to introduce you to Juana Sarmiento.
Hi Juana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Juana Sarmiento, and I am the owner of Proverbs Creative Studio. My studio offers a range of creative services including photography, videography, graphic design,.We’re a Wife and Husband duo with collaborators that are included in our packages: drone imagery and photobooth services.
My interest in photography began at the ripe age of 17. In High School I was in photography as an elective class and completely fell in love with the art of capturing moments. Shortly after, I began checking out a point-and-shoot camera and getting creative with my friends at school and church. I vividly remember taking that camera to a church summer camp and photographing the beautiful Texas landscapes—that’s when I knew I wanted to hold on to photography and treasure it. At the time, I had no plans to start a business.
After graduating high school, I went on to attend Sam Houston State University and later earned a graduate degree in a field that isn’t particularly creative or entrepreneurial. Still, from a young age, I’ve been a girl with multifaceted talents. I’ve always believed in not limiting myself to one box, and the idea of exploring new possibilities has always intrigued me. I knew that starting a small business in photography would take time and serious dedication, which is why I waited until the right moment to pursue that dream.
Over the years, I photographed only close friends and family—lifestyle sessions like graduations and engagements—but it was never a formal business, per se. Then one day in 2024, Proverbs Creative Studio was born, purely by the grace of God. The Lord placed Proverbs 31:13 on my heart as a gentle reminder of who He called me to be. The verse reads:
“She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.” — Proverbs 31:13
This verse inspired the name Proverbs Creative Studio. God used this powerful Scripture to remind me that all you really need is will—the will to serve, create, and grow. We aren’t called to live in comfort but to be tested, refined, and strengthened. My hope and strength come from Jesus. If my business can do just one thing, I hope it inspires others to seek Jesus and to never give up on their dreams—no matter how big or small—and to always put the Kingdom of God first (Matthew 6:33).
I am an innovator at heart and love bringing creative ideas to life. Proverbs Creative Studio is the perfect outlet for me and my team to let our creativity shine. Our main goal is to glorify Jesus Christ through everything we do—connecting people’s life stories to art. We aim to showcase the Houston area as a place where dreamy, cinematic, and unique storytelling is not only possible but thriving.
As someone born and raised in Houston, I love highlighting the often-overlooked parts of the city that many don’t consider as potential photography locations. Sometimes, it takes just one vision to inspire others. Overall we strive to serve our clients wholeheartedly—not only with our thoughtful approach but also with our creative ideas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’ve learned that meaningful journeys rarely are. I always wanted to start my own photography business, but I just didn’t know when the right time would be. One of my biggest struggles was knowing when to take that leap—I have always loved photography deeply, but I wasn’t ready to make it a small business until 2024.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Proverbs Creative Studio, I specialize in lifestyle and wedding photography, along with videography, and graphic design. What makes my approach unique is the blend of my analytical and creative sides—I bring structure, intention, and heart into every project. I’ve always been deeply drawn to storytelling, and I love turning real moments into meaningful, dreamy, timeless and cinematic art. I also believe what sets me apart is that I include props and videography in most of my packages — to really tell a story.
I’m most proud that this business was born from faith and purpose, not just passion. What sets me apart is my vision and passion, photography is something I’ve been skilled that for many years. PCS is more than photography—it’s about serving others, creating with intention, and honoring God through it all.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
As I mentioned earlier, the most important quality behind my success is putting the Kingdom of God first—just as Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” That verse has guided every step of my journey. When I lead with faith, everything else falls into place—creative ideas, connections, opportunities, and the courage to keep going. Staying grounded in purpose and trusting God’s timing has made all the difference.
