Check Out Agnes Usoro’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Agnes Usoro.

Hi Agnes , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Akwa Ibom State Nigeria but raised in Sugar Land, TX, I started my healthcare career as an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse after receiving my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University. Realizing my passion for learning and critical care, I advanced my knowledge and expertise by attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) before completing my residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and becoming a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician. A self-described “adrenaline junky” in the medical field, my passion is treating patients with a sense of urgency. My clinical interests are global emergency medicine, improving emergency care services in low-resourced environments, and the social determinants of health. I have worked with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to improve emergency care resources in Nigeria, Pakistan, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Brazil. Outside of my clinical pursuits, I am an avid advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. I started the House Staff Diversity Council at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital during my emergency medicine residency training. This organization is still going strong and aims to improve the experience of under-represented in medicine residents during their medical training. A current and ongoing passion for me is regenerative health, wellness, and aesthetics. Inspired by the cancer journeys of my parents, as well as a very close friend who lost her battle to stage IV colorectal cancer, I founded River Oaks Galleria (ROG) Medspa. The aim was to help others look and feel their absolute best despite life’s challenges. I recognized that as my loved ones embarked upon their cancer journeys, a key priority for them, in addition to their cancer healing and recovery, was their wellness, aesthetics, self-esteem, and mental well-being, as cancer therapy can have long-lasting effects on an individual’s skin health, hair health, gut health, functional capacity, and psyche. Everyone, despite life’s challenges, wants to look and feel their best. At River Oaks Galleria (ROG) Medspa, the priority is self-care. The company aims to be an all-inclusive center for regenerative health, wellness, and aesthetic services that helps the community to live their respective lives to the fullest.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to this point wasn’t easy—especially since I began with minimal formal business training. I knew the science of Botox, laser physics, and peptide infusions inside and out, but running a P&L statement? Drafting a room-rental contract? Marketing on social media and google? Those were all new territories and serves as a huge hurdle for me. In the early days, I juggled late nights teaching myself basic accounting, attending local small-business workshops, and leaning heavily on mentors— who walked me through hiring protocols and risk management, and an operations consultant who helped me build our initial staff training manuals. But with persistence and hard word, I improved on my marketing skills and have learned the art of delegation for efficiency. I recognize that there will always be hurdles in business, but I feel better equipped to tackle them now.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My professional path has been defined by a relentless curiosity and a passion for bridging the worlds of medical expertise and holistic wellness. Before founding my medspa, I spent years immersed in clinical settings—learning the science behind emergency care delivery. But recently, my curiosity in regenerative medicine has lead me down the path of aesthetics and integrative medicine. I now value studying emerging regenerative therapies. What distinguishes me is this dual lens: I approach every service from both a medical-technical standpoint and a deeply human one. I’m just as focused on the evidence behind a treatment (for example, why exosomes work at the cellular level) as I am on creating an environment where a client feels truly cared for—mind, body, and spirit.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see my industry shifting towards regenerative and precision medicine, which prioritizes the intrinsic healing properties of the human body, as well as the uniqueness of individuals at the cellular level, recognizing the genetic and epigenetic contributions of each person and how that impacts his/her response to therapies. This is why I focus on, and emphasize, regenerative therapies in my practice.
