We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ivory Hecker. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Ivory, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
This summer I disappeared to my hometown in the north woods of Wisconsin, and I found such immense joy just sitting on the couch at my mom’s house, listening to my brother play piano, chit chatting about nothing important with the family who raised me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I got hit with the gift of songwriting back in 2019. After months of daily meditation, it just came out of nowhere. Songs would pour out of my subconscious. Since then, I’ve been signing and playing guitar at restaurant and country club gigs, and I’ve produced a handful of the songs. I’ve music with the talented Billy Dawson in Nashville.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with God through extended time in prayer built a solid foundation of trust that gives me peace in my daily life. I can cast my cares on Him. I started praying for a half hour in the morning and night, and that extended time really makes a difference.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I changed my mind about leaning on my own understanding in everything. After doing everything I knew to do right in relationships, and still seeing them crumble, I learned to cast all my cares on God and not worry about it. God’s leading is always the best. Tune out the noise of society’s programming and all those 4o step programs for success in you-name-it. Just trust God, period.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
That good things come to those who focus on the good. We don’t need to fight the bad to get the good. There is always good to be found at the same time that the bad is being highlighted. When we turn our attention to the good, good momentum flows into our lives, and the bad melts away. Good vibes are contagious. So are bad vibes. So be careful what you’re giving your attention to and who you’re spending time with. When you see someone you disagree with, rather than argue with them, just be the light, and let them be the darkness. Send them love if you can. Be the change you wish to see in the world. That’s the best we can do.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When have you had to bet the company?
Bet the company? Well I started a news company, and when I realized all the toxic news that got all the clicks and brought in all the revenue was only eroding people’s mental health, I decided to bet the company. I made a gamble that shifting gears to more positive stories would still keep the business afloat. I’m in the middle of that transition now. Wish me luck!
