We’re looking forward to introducing you to William Heartsill. Check out our conversation below.
Hi William, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually start my day around 6 AM – it’s a habit that keeps me focused and energized for the work day ahead. I head straight to my home gym, where I’ll do a 30-minute Peloton strength class and either a cycling ride or an incline walk. On rest days, I swap the workout for a cold plunge, and my fiancé and I take our dog, Teddy, on a longer walk around the neighborhood. That early morning routine – whether it’s training or just getting outside – helps me clear my head and set the tone for the day. Working in luxury auto detailing requires precision, patience, and a sharp eye, and I’ve found that starting my mornings with intention helps me bring my best to every appointment.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is William Heartsill, and I’m the founder of Texas Detailing Association (TDA)—a company built on passion, precision, and a deep respect for the art of automotive care. We specialize in Paint Protection Film (PPF), ceramic coatings, paint correction, and high-end detailing. Based in Houston, we work closely with exotic dealerships and some of the most prominent car collectors in Texas. What truly sets us apart is the level of consistency and experience our clients receive. Every vehicle we work on is treated with the same level of care and attention we’d give our own. We’re committed to staying at the top of our game—continually learning, improving, and refining our skills to ensure the results speak for themselves.
In addition to growing Texas Detailing Association, I’ve been fortunate to explore another passion of mine – real estate. I am currently working towards becoming a licensed real estate agent, which feels like a natural next step. A lot of our TDA clients share a genuine interest in real estate, and over time, those conversations have sparked something in me. Whether it’s helping a client find their next home, discover a smart investment property, or just connecting over a shared appreciation for design and space. Real estate offers a new way for me to bring value to the relationships I’ve built.
For me, it’s always been about more than just cars – it’s about people. I love building long-term, meaningful connections, and this next chapter is an exciting opportunity to deepen those relationships beyond the garage.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I found my way into entrepreneurship, I was your typical college student working toward a business degree. At the same time, I was also working part-time at my family’s business, Tootsies— a clothing store. That experience gave me a real understanding of what it means to create lasting client relationships. It wasn’t just about making a sale; it was about how you made someone feel. When you give people a memorable experience, they come back—not because they have to, but because they want to.
Detailing started out as a hobby I’d do on the weekends. I loved taking care of my own car – a BMW M3 – and while I was working on it, neighbors would often walk by and ask if I’d detail theirs too. Eventually, neighbors turned into clients, and referrals started to come my way.
That’s when I realized I had an opportunity to turn something I enjoyed into a side hustle. I kept my part-time job and went to class during the week, but on weekends, I detailed cars and went to local car meets to get my name out there. It was a great way to connect with other car enthusiasts and show what I could do. I used the skills I picked up at Tootsies—like building rapport and delivering a premium experience—to not just land clients, but keep them.
As demand grew and I built a portfolio, I started seeing a bigger vision. What began as a weekend gig turned into something I was truly passionate about, and it made me realize I wanted to build a career in the automotive industry. That’s how Texas Detailing Association was born—and I haven’t looked back since.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Entrepreneurship isn’t always fun – it’s demanding, both mentally and physically. There have been plenty of moments where everything seemed to be going smoothly, only for the unexpected to throw things off course. When that happens, it’s easy to overthink and fall into a negative mindset.
Over time, I realized that even the most successful people face the same challenges. I’ve had conversations with clients – many who I look up to – who shared their own stories of setbacks and self-doubt. It helped me understand that those moments of uncertainty are completely normal – they don’t define your path, they’re just part of it.
What’s helped me the most is staying organized, keeping a clear head, and being consistent with my work. Focusing on progress over perfection, and maintaining a healthy balance between business and personal life, has allowed me to push through the hard days. At the end of the day, persistence and perspective are what keep you moving forward.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I’ve always believed in showing up as the same person, whether I’m at work or at home. I try to lead with authenticity.
Over time, I’ve seen how often people feel pressured to put on a persona just to land a deal or be liked, and that’s never been my style. My goal is to inspire others—especially the next generation—to embrace who they are and lead with that. There’s real power in being original, and I truly believe that kind of authenticity will take you further than any image ever could.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember me as someone who was truly multifaceted – someone who embraced life fully and wasn’t afraid to chase different passions. Whether it was cooking, building businesses, taking risks, or going on adventures, I’ve always believed in exploring what excites me. At the same time, I’ve made a priority of showing up for the people who matter – family and friends have always been a big part of my life.
More than anything, I want to inspire future generations to believe that they don’t have to fit into just one box. Life is full of possibilities, and we only get one shot at it. I’m giving it everything I’ve got, and I can honestly say I’m happy with where I am right now. I wouldn’t change a thing.
