An Inspired Chat with Matt Samuels of Clear Lake/Webster/League City/Friendswood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Matt Samuels . Check out our conversation below.

Matt, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Most days start early for me. Mornings are for catching up on emails, planning shoots, and prepping content ideas. Afternoons are usually split between photography sessions, coaching cheer, or meetings for my photo booth business. Evenings are when I edit, review content, and handle marketing. It’s busy, but I love that every day is a mix of creativity, people, and problem-solving.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Matt Samuels — a photographer, cheer coach, and all-around creative based in Houston, Texas. I’ve been coaching cheer for nearly two decades, working with athletes to build not just skills, but confidence and teamwork. On the photography side, I specialize in capturing life’s big moments — from weddings and seniors to families and events — and I recently launched my photo booth company, Moments & Memories Social Booth. What makes my work unique is that I blend my coaching background with my creative side, so whether I’m behind the camera or on the gym floor, I’m focused on making people feel comfortable, confident, and celebrated. Right now, I’m growing my businesses, creating more content, and saying yes to new opportunities that push me creatively.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Honestly? I was a mix of class clown, hype man, and storyteller. I didn’t think about what people expected from me — I just lived. I’m glad I’ve circled back to that energy because that’s when I’m at my best.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. There have been seasons where the stress of running a business, coaching, and balancing life felt overwhelming. I’ve had moments where I thought, ‘Maybe this isn’t for me.’ But every time, I’d remind myself why I started — the people I serve, the athletes I mentor, the clients who trust me with their memories. That reminder has always been enough to push me forward.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d say I care deeply about people — my friends, my athletes, my clients. I want the people around me to feel valued, supported, and celebrated. They’d also say I put a lot of energy into creating experiences and memories, whether that’s through photography, coaching, or just showing up for them when it counts.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Honestly, I feel most at peace when I’m in full couch-rot mode or when I’m surrounded by my people — the ones who make me laugh, recharge my energy, and fill my cup. Those moments remind me that peace isn’t always about silence; sometimes it’s about being with the right people.
