David Winters on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with David Winters and have shared our conversation below.

David, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
In the first 90 minutes of my day, I focus on daily devotion. I start by reading my Bible, which helps set a positive and reflective tone for the day. This quiet time allows me to meditate on the scriptures and gain inspiration. After my reading, I spend some time planning my day, organizing tasks and setting priorities. This combination of spiritual reflection and practical planning helps me approach the day with intention and clarity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
KingsDetails is a mobile detailing service based in Houston, Texas and some parts of West Texas. The company specializes in bringing professional car wash and detailing services directly to customers’ locations, ensuring convenience and high-quality results. We offer a wide range of detailing services, including hand washes, engine bay cleaning, steam cleaning, and paint corrections. We utilize top-line, pH-neutral products that are safe for vehicles, ensuring a high-quality finish.

KingsDetails is developing its own interior cleaning chemical, which will soon be available for customers to purchase.

We aim to provide a royal treatment experience for car owners looking for quality detailing without the hassle of visiting a traditional car wash.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped my perspective was when I founded my business. I realized that nothing would endure without having Jesus at the center of it. This understanding not only guided my decisions but also reinforced my commitment to building a company grounded in faith. It’s this foundation that has allowed my business to thrive and serve others meaningfully.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, “Believe in your potential and trust the journey ahead. Every challenge you face will shape you into a stronger, wiser person. Embrace your faith, and know that you are never alone.”

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the detailing industry is the belief that you can grow your brand overnight. Many detailers are tempted to sell online courses promising rapid success, convincing others that quick growth is achievable. In reality, building a successful business takes time, dedication, and learning. It’s essential to recognize that every large success begins with small steps, and true growth is a gradual process that requires patience and hard work.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, my customers would likely miss the personalized service and genuine care that I bring to every detail. They appreciate the commitment to quality and the attention to detail that ensures their vehicles look their best. Additionally, the relationships built over time—trust and reliability—would be something they would truly miss, along with the passion for excellence that defines my business.
