We recently had the chance to connect with Cecily Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Cecily , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
For me, the many demands of running a business often cause distractions that make me lose sight of time and focus. However, remembering God’s presence helps me regain clarity and purpose. It reminds me to align every moment with what truly matters. Staying consistent in putting Him first keeps me grounded and helps me find myself again amidst the busyness of life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Cecily Gonzalez, the owner of Beautifeye. I’ve been in the beauty industry since 2011. Initially, I never imagined starting my own business, but as I gained experience, knowledge, and saw the growing demand, my mindset shifted. That’s when I launched Beautifeye in 2018. Around the same time, COVID-19 hit, which actually gave me the opportunity to focus on building strong foundations for my business — creating manuals, employee handbooks, policies, and procedures. I’m incredibly grateful for the loyal following I had already built by then. Throughout the challenges, I stayed busy ensuring we generated enough revenue to continue growing and hiring talented employees. Above all, I give thanks to God for guiding and sustaining me on this journey.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world came in 2022 when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Lupus. Before that, I was running on adrenaline, riding the high of growing success, believing that drive alone could sustain me. But when I became seriously ill, I realized it was because I hadn’t been taking care of myself. I learned the hard way that if you don’t prioritize your health, nothing else will function properly—neither your business nor your life.
I’m incredibly grateful for my team who supported me through that time. This experience profoundly changed my perspective both personally and professionally. Now, my business motto is all about doing things His way—serving with purpose and faith. That mindset is what truly matters to me and guides everything I do moving forward.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
This question is so meaningful. One of the defining wounds I carried into my business was my struggle with control. I didn’t realize how much damage that mindset was causing me until I took a step back and acknowledged it. Healing meant committing to real change—shifting my habits and staying consistent in those changes over time.
I’ve learned that time truly does heal, but seeking counseling and being honest with myself were crucial parts of the process. It also meant apologizing to the people I had hurt along the way. Addressing those deep-rooted wounds has allowed me to grow not only as a person but also as a leader and business owner.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
A belief I used to hold tightly—but now see as naive—was the idea of “Hustle, hustle, hustle. I’ll rest when I’m dead.” I was constantly pushing myself to the limit, always comparing my progress to what competitors were doing, thinking that non-stop work was the only path to success.
Over time, growth and faith have profoundly changed my perspective. I now understand that success isn’t just about relentless hustle, but about balance, purpose, and trusting God’s timing. Looking back, I realize how narrow my old definition of success was, and I thank God every day for opening my eyes to see things the right way.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m able to serve others. Being in a service-based business and a business leader, there’s a deep sense of fulfillment in knowing that I can truly help the people around me. My greatest hope is that I’ve made a positive impact in someone’s life through the work I do. That purpose brings me peace like nothing else.
