We recently had the chance to connect with Jordan Underwood and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of building my own sense of resilience and self-belief — the kind that doesn’t show on the surface but is the foundation of everything I do. It’s the quiet work of facing doubts, pushing through setbacks, and learning to trust my instincts. That inner strength shapes not only my life but every space I create.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jordan Underwood — a designer and decorator who believes every space should tell a story. My style blends elegance with personality, layering textures, colors, and eras to create rooms that feel both timeless and deeply personal. Whether it’s transforming a home, styling a special event, or creating an unforgettable holiday display, my goal is always to make people feel something the moment they walk in.
I’m endlessly inspired by the way design can shift mood, spark memories, and transform how people experience a space. For me, it’s not just about beauty — it’s about creating an atmosphere that lingers with you long after you’ve left.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was someone who held back. I wasn’t confident in myself or my work, and I kept a certain distance from people — almost like I was afraid to take up space. Over time, life handed me my share of challenges, and I started to see the connection between authenticity, confidence, and adversity.
I realized that real confidence doesn’t come from pretending to be someone you’re not — it comes from owning exactly who you are, flaws and all, and trusting your vision even when it’s tested. That shift changed everything, not just in my life, but in my work. Now, I design with that same philosophy — spaces that are unapologetically true to the people who live in them, layered with character, warmth, and a sense of self you can feel the moment you walk in.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell him, ‘You don’t have to shrink yourself to fit in. The things that make you different are the very things that will set you apart. You were put on this earth for a reason — trust your voice, trust your vision, and know that the confidence you’re looking for will come when you stop trying to be anyone but yourself.’
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Authenticity. I protect it at all costs because it’s the foundation of everything — in life, in relationships, and in design. I’ve learned that when you stay true to who you are, you attract the right people, the right opportunities, and the right energy. The moment you compromise that, you lose the magic that makes you unique.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply that most people don’t is that you don’t need a lot of money to make a space truly feel like you. It’s about thoughtful choices, creativity, and layering personal touches — not expensive pieces. When you focus on what tells your story and brings you joy, even the simplest space can feel rich with meaning and style.
