Giselle Cruz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Giselle, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day typically consist of doing my skincare & getting ready to head to my workout. During my workout I’ll take some time to plan my day and respond to any clients who have reached out overnight! A consistent morning routine sets me up for a smooth day!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Giselle, a 24 year old licensed esthetician and owner of Glo Skin Studio. Glo is a cozy studio that offers corrective skin treatments and professional grade skincare products. Glo offers treatments and products for all skin concerns, but specializes in acne! I take pride in making sure Glo is a safe space for all skin types and concerns, without judgement.
Glo wouldn’t be here if 16 year old me never struggled with acne, so I dedicate lots of time furthering my education to make sure I have effective treatments and products for all forms of acne!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom definitely saw me clearly before I could ever see myself and my potential. My mom has always been my number one supporter and motivator in every decision I’ve made and path I’ve taken. I believe she knew what I was capable of before I realized, and always saw my passion for the beauty industry. She truly leaves no room for self doubt! I know she’s the person I can go to when I need some grounding.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering during difficult times of my life and business have definitely taught me more than success ever could. These times have taught me to trust myself and my faith more than ever. I’ve learned to take these moments as opportunities to reflect and improve to make it through stronger. I believe that everything we go through as people and business owners teaches us valuable lessons! Looking back at the times I’ve suffered during rough moments, I realize they were necessary in order to grow and become successful.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
At the beginning of my career, due to my environment, I often thought that I had to dim my personality to be professional. Over the years, I’ve realized that my personality is one of the reasons my clients feel safe and comfortable during their journey. Clients can often feel vulnerable or shy during the process of treating their skin concerns, I love the fact that I can make someone feel welcome and at-ease when they come to Glo.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’m doing what I was born to do, my purpose in life has always been to help others and my job gives me the opportunity to do that every day. I’ve truly never had doubts that my career is my purpose, and helping people with their skin is not always surface level. I enjoy making my clients feel heard, confident, and relaxed during their skin journey at Glo.
