Conversations with Boson Mo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Boson Mo.

Boson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Boson Mo, I’m a violinist living in Houston, and I’m currently working for the Houston Symphony as the Assistant Concertmaster.

I first moved to Houston in 2012 for my graduate studies at Rice University, and a few years later moved “down the street” to work for the Houston Symphony.

As Co-Artistic Director of Musica Tra Amici, I’m very proud to share the beauty of classical music in the more intimate setting of chamber music. Musica Tra Amici means “music among friends,” and we love how the mode of chamber music allows us to play music among friends, and share it with a smaller, more personal audience.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s no question that our biggest challenges came during the COVID19 Pandemic. However, our mission of sharing chamber music inherently involves fewer people, we were able to resume performing a bit earlier than expected. In addition, we were able to livestream our performances, so that made virtual performances possible. Today, our performances are attended both live and virtually via livestream.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the Assistant Concertmaster in the Houston Symphony, I also teach violin at the University of Houston, and I’m co-Artistic Director of Musica Tra Amici chamber music series.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Houston is really one of the greatest places to start out on just about anything! The great diversity of the city means that there’s an open mindedness and curiosity that’s part of the culture of the city, and there’s a great support for the arts community.
