Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Tyler.
Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Crystal Tyler, and my greatest joy in life is being a wife and mother. I married my high school sweetheart, and together we have built a strong and loving foundation over the years. Our marriage has been a journey of growth, faith, and partnership, one that has shaped me into the woman, mother, and leader I am today. Together, we are raising three amazing young men who inspire me daily to lead by example and to never stop working toward a brighter future for our family and community.
Education has always been important to me, not just for personal achievement but as a way to better serve others. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Houston–Downtown, and later completed my Master of Public Administration from Texas Southern University. My studies gave me a deeper understanding of people, systems, and the importance of effective leadership in creating lasting change.
My passion for service began long before I ever held a title. As a mother, I wanted to create opportunities for my children and others to thrive. I started by volunteering in schools and local programs, and before long, I found myself deeply rooted in community service, Big Love being one of them. What began as a way to give back grew into a calling, a mission to serve, uplift, and bring people together.
That commitment led me into the political and civic world, where I’ve been honored to serve in many different capacities. Over the years, I’ve worked on multiple campaigns, partnered with organizations, and helped strengthen connections between leaders and the communities they serve. Each step of the way, my focus has been on building trust, empowering others, and making sure that every voice is heard.
Today, I am proud to serve as a member of multiple organizations and as an elected official on the Harris County Water Board. In this role, I work to ensure that our families have access to safe, reliable resources while keeping transparency and accountability at the heart of every decision.
Through it all my marriage, motherhood, education, community service, and public office my story is one of love, resilience, and service. My family keeps me grounded, my community keeps me inspired, and my faith keeps me moving forward.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been easy. Along the way, I have faced many obstacles and setbacks that tested my strength, my faith, and my determination. One of the most difficult chapters of my life came when my oldest son was diagnosed with AML leukemia. For nearly two years, our family lived at Texas Children’s Hospital, walking through the darkest and most uncertain days together. By God’s grace, my son is now in remission and preparing to graduate college, a living testimony of faith, resilience, and perseverance.
During that time, I also made the decision to pause my own education so that my husband could complete his, allowing him to better serve and provide for our family. It was a sacrifice made out of love and commitment, and one that taught me the true meaning of partnership.
Now that my children are older, I have been blessed with the opportunity to return to my goals and focus more on myself. This new season has opened doors for me to not only continue my education but also deepen my commitment to community service and leadership. Every trial I’ve faced has shaped the servant-leader I am today, reminding me that even in struggle, there is purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my professional life, I serve as a communications and community engagement leader with more than a decade of experience shaping public perception, strengthening relationships, and creating strategies that bring people and communities together. Currently, I work as the Community Outreach and Public Relations for the Fort Bend County Tax Office, where I develop and execute communications strategies that keep residents informed, connected, and engaged. From managing social media to creating live and digital content, I specialize in telling stories that resonate and in building trust between government and the people it serves.
I also proudly serve as a Board Director for Harris County WCID, a position I have held since 2014. In this role, I work to ensure responsible financial planning, transparency, and accountability, while advocating for resources that meet the needs of families and communities. My work in this capacity has allowed me to bridge leadership with service, ensuring that residents not only have a voice, but also see action behind that voice.
Beyond my current roles, I have contributed my expertise to political campaigns as a campaign manager for more than a decade. I’ve developed strategies, led communications, and built grassroots connections that helped leaders strengthen their platforms and communities. Additionally, as an advisor to the Fort Bend Constable Department, I’ve worked with law enforcement to create outreach initiatives that build stronger bonds of trust and safety with the public.
Another important part of my work is serving as a mediator for civil and family cases. Mediation allows me to use my background in psychology, communications, and public service to help families and individuals resolve conflicts in a constructive, fair, and peaceful manner. Whether navigating sensitive family matters or civil disputes, I specialize in creating space for dialogue, understanding, and resolution. This work is deeply meaningful to me because it aligns with my lifelong commitment to helping people find solutions and move forward.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I am most proud of the fact that my career has never been about titles, it has always been about people. From helping residents understand property taxes, to guiding families through community programs, to ensuring clean and reliable water for neighborhoods, every role I have taken on has been centered around service. I am especially proud of the trust I’ve built within the community, where people know I will not only listen to their concerns but also work tirelessly to find solutions. My work as a mediator is also a source of pride, because it allows me to bring peace and resolution to some of life’s most difficult situations.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart from others is the unique combination of personal resilience, professional expertise, and genuine commitment to service. I know firsthand what it means to face life’s hardest challenges and still keep moving forward. That perspective allows me to lead with empathy while also bringing a results-driven mindset. My background in psychology, public administration, and mediation gives me both the human-centered and policy-centered lenses needed to serve effectively. Most importantly, I don’t just “show up” to do the work, I live it, every day, as a mother, wife, leader, and servant to my community.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I enjoy a balanced life outside of work by spending time fishing, riding horses, and hunting. These activities help me stay grounded and connected to the outdoors.
