Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavian Glenn Jr.
Hi Tavian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been connected to music. My dad was a DJ in Pittsburgh, where he’s from. I had no idea that being a dj was intrinsic to me. When I moved back home from Kansas after college in 2011. I worked for JPL Entertainment for ten years after that until the person who taught me everything i know about the Wedding DJ industry sadly passed away.
Three years ago I went fully independent and started getting gigs of all sorts on my own here and there.
Last year i met my friend who took me to the boondocks for the first time and i saw the way i finally wanted to dj and what events i wanted to dj
This year i finally learned how to take the nerd culture that im in love with and the music i like to connect people with and made them go hand in hand with the events that I take part of!
I certainly have a long way to go with DJ-ing, but a big piece of myself feels connected to this and it keeps me going.
I hope one day I can make this my main and only job, and i can go across the world and connect people with the music i love so much….maybe coachella.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
DJ-ing hasnt been the easiest thing ever. Its a relationship based enviroment. You eventually come across challenges whether it be people or establisments.
Not to mention the passing of my mentor hit me pretty hard. With this business espcially when you start young you have plenty of time to get a little imposter syndrome.
For me back then it got hard to take in the successes of other peop[e in the same industry as me. You look at some of these djs with wild crowds and big payouts and it discouraged me as a youth
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im known as a dj but i’ve also been a content creator for the last couple of years. It has been a challenge in itself but i have found that i actually love making content and sharing my intrests over the things that i make
The fact that im not only a dj but i have so many intrests in culutre, film, art, and music makes me a swirling cocktail of things to talk about.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up i was always an outside kid. Living in kansas i always found myself outside in the neighborhood. I like my friends and interacting with other kids.
Im natually funny i can say that with confidence.
That carried over my whole life even when i moved to texas. I never like being in the house.
I liked video games and tv my whole life sure, but i was the one who wanted to know the inner workings of how those things worked.
I loved film but i wanted to know who the people really were and how the film was made
Kids watched boy meets world, but i was watching the simpsons and in living color. I like video game sound tracks over what was on the radio.
I didnt really fall in love with music until i got my first ludacris CD.
I was the nerdy kid for sure. Video games and cartoons.. My intrests in those things just went way deeper than most kids.
All the way until this point.
