Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasia Hinkle.
Hi Dasia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am where I am today because I didn’t give up on myself. Art was something I knew I wanted and I was never afraid to bet on myself. I even ended up in Houston from Chicago because of a job (that I no longer even work at lol), but because I wanted a different experience for myself – I took the leap of faith. New city, not knowing anyone – a space to really get to know yourself, and it wasn’t easy. From job loss, not suffering in silence, and now an increase of abundance. I can truly say I weathered the storm with grace and came out on the other side truly blessed. There were many challenges, but finding ways to have peace of mind really changes how you view your situation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road, I truly didn’t know how things would end up for me. I always wanted the time and space to work on my craft, but I was afraid to take the leap. It wasn’t until my job loss that really made me refocus on what I wanted to do for myself. I was able to bring all the ideas I’ve written down over the years, to life. Though I’m still growing in my business, I create art that I’m proud of and that comes from a place of peace.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Marketing Coordinator and I specialize in layout & design, as well as, social media marketing. My roots are graphic design, I’ve dabbled in logo design, large publications, website updates and rebranding. I’m proud of always being able to show up for my clients and I pride myself in producing high quality work while being efficient. I am also a zentangle artist, so being able to take that detail eye and apply it to the work I do now sets me apart from others.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Throughout my journey so far, the lesson that has been the most important is to not suffer in silence. I’m so used to being able to do for myself, so being at a place where I was forced to lean on family and friends that wanted to be there for me was a bit hard at first. Accepting help shouldn’t be hard, but consistently telling myself that I don’t have to suffer in silence really helped. Along with having the validation and support of those around me, after being vulnerable about my journey help immensely.
