We recently had the chance to connect with Candice Renee and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Candice, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I’m going to go with integrity.
Because, Who you are when no one is looking is important.
Can you be trusted with someone else’s life, business or visions?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, Everyone! I am Candice Renee aka @my_fair_hairlady. I am the Owner and Master Short Hairstylist at The Hair Odyssey Salon based out of Houston, Texas. I am originally from St. Louis, Mo. We just celebrated 8 years! I came to Houston with zero clients and through hard work and dedication I now am always booked! I have created some of the hottest haircuts and styles within the Short hair Industry. I am super excited to share how absolutely amazing this journey has been. Thank you, Voyage Magazine for doing this 4 year follow up.
My salon is known for it’s eye catching, trendy hairstyles, customer service and a good energy atmosphere
This is my Happy place Yall!
This brand was built out of love, passion and a purpose; so I allow my hands to be the vessel.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My Grandfather, Poppy aka Paba taught me the most about working.
Stories that made a difference in the way I viewed supporting myself at a young age.
My grandfather always made us work for the things we wanted from him. If I asked him for money, He would say, ” Ok, come iron my clothes.” He then created a lawn mowing business for my siblings and I.
Boy, did I hate that job! I cried and ran when people would notice me. Every weekend I said, “Nope, I’m not going!”
He often said, ” Ok, so you don’t want any money?” And I would get right up!
He taught me you have to work for the things you want.
Thank You Pop
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not feeling capable and becoming complacent in my own laziness.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! Being your authentic self is what attracts people to you. Having to put up a perception for the world to see vs how I live behind closed doors would be draining.
I love being relatable.
My four I’s are for me to be Impactful, Influential, Inspiring and Innovative.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace, when I’m on the beach with the perfect weather. That is my top favorite place to be.. The sounds of the water and birds bring such a calming. Looking at the water as it appears limitless just like the way I view myself.
