We’re looking forward to introducing you to Harold Chatman. Check out our conversation below.
Harold, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing I’ve learned about my customers is how much it really comes down to how you make them feel. Beyond the workouts, the nutrition advice, or the fitness plans, people value being treated with care, respect, and understanding. They want to feel heard, supported, and educated in a way that opens their minds to lasting change. That genuine connection builds trust — and often leads them to refer me to their friends, family, and co-workers. At the end of the day, health and wellness is not just about the body, it’s about creating a relationship where people feel seen and empowered to live a healthier lifestyle.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A little bit about me — I’m Coach Harold, a personal trainer as well as a health, wellness, and life coach. What makes my brand, HVL-Well Coaching & Training Center, unique is that I teach and focus on the five pillars of wellness: fitness, nutrition, stress management, proper sleep, and supplement intake. By addressing all five areas, I’m able to guarantee results — most of my clients walk away after 3–4 months not just fitter, but with the knowledge and habits to sustain a healthy, vibrant lifestyle long-term.
In addition to in-person training, I also provide virtual health and life coaching. This is where I help clients prevent illness, better understand daily nutritional needs, and develop tools for peace, clarity, and focus. We also work on boosting confidence, building healthier relationships, and strengthening problem-solving skills. By combining life coaching with health coaching, I’ve created a holistic program that has quickly become my clients’ favorite and most impactful service.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I would say sports taught me the most about work. Playing football in particular opened my eyes to the value of discipline, consistency, and pushing through adversity. My coaches were tough on us, but they also gave life lessons that went far beyond the field — about preparation, resilience, and what to expect once the game is over. Sports really instilled in me that hard work, developing your craft, and never giving up are the foundation not just for athletics, but for success in life.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up — during college at Abilene Christian University. Things became extremely tough and I found myself questioning whether it was even worth it. But then I thought about my mom, who had taken out loans and sacrificed so much to invest in me. I couldn’t bear the thought of letting her down. That pushed me to refocus, get disciplined, and see it through. Graduating wasn’t just about earning a degree — it was about making my mom proud, securing my future, and showing my family that it’s possible. In fact, not many people in my family have earned a four-year degree, so finishing became bigger than me — it was about setting an example.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is living in alignment with my health and values. They’d tell you I never compromise on working out, eating right, and sticking to strong daily habits — from my morning and night routines to how I structure my afternoons. They know I prioritize self-development through reading, daily devotion, and growth-focused podcasts, while also making sure I check in with myself mentally and emotionally. And above all, they’d say I value time with my family and my close circle of friends — because for me, true success is about health, growth, faith, and meaningful relationships.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most peace when I’m doing things that fuel me rather than drain me. That includes working out, eating right, reading, and feeding my mind with positive content like podcasts. I also find peace in quality time with friends and family, enjoying meaningful relationships, or even simple things like going for a walk or playing a video game. Most importantly, I find joy in giving to others and spending time with my little one — those moments remind me what truly matters and bring me a sense of calm and fulfillment.
