Harold Chatman of Spring Area on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Harold Chatman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Harold, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
One of the things I’m most proud of building—something that often goes unnoticed—is my health and wellness routine. It’s taken me over a decade of consistent trial, error, and refinement to truly lock in a structure that supports me physically, mentally, and emotionally. From my intentional morning practices to my midday resets, all the way through my nighttime wind-down and sleep optimization, every part of my day is designed to promote energy, clarity, and recovery.

It’s a process that never really ends—I’m always looking for ways to improve and evolve. But what sets it apart is the level of discipline and self-awareness it takes to sustain it day after day. That foundation has become my edge. It’s not flashy, but it’s powerful. It’s my version of becoming 1% better every day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
🔹 About Coach Harold | HVL-Well Coaching & Training Center

Hi, I’m Coach Harold — founder of HVL-Well Coaching & Training Center, where we focus on helping people take back control of their health with real, sustainable habits.

My journey started when I was just 13 years old. My mom brought me to the gym, and from that very first workout, something clicked. I became addicted to the process — the grind, the growth, and the transformation. While I originally planned to follow a career path based on my college degree, I felt a stronger calling. I stepped fully into health and fitness and never looked back.

Starting my own brand wasn’t easy. I began in corporate gyms, offered free sessions, hustled through outreach, and built a community from the ground up. But what truly set HVL-Well apart was my deeper understanding of whole-body wellness — not just working out and eating clean, but addressing the Five Pillars of Wellness:

✅ Fitness
✅ Nutrition
✅ Stress Management
✅ Quality Sleep
✅ Supplementation

When I applied these pillars in my own life, my energy, mindset, and physical health leveled up. I knew I had something powerful to share — and now, I teach my clients how to optimize their own health without extreme diets or risky medications.

At HVL-Well, we don’t do quick fixes. We build long-term, lifestyle-based results. Every client who follows our 4- to 6-month program and stays consistent sees real, lasting transformation. And whether you’re working with me in person or through my virtual health and life coaching, my mission stays the same: to help you become your healthiest, most confident self — for good.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that the only path to success in life was through more education — more school, more degrees, more knowledge. I thought the key to getting what you wanted was being the smartest in the room.

But as I grew older and gained real-world experience, I learned that success is more about who you know than what you know. Relationships open doors that education alone sometimes can’t. It’s about making genuine connections, treating people with respect, adding value, and building trust.

Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how leveraging relationships — not just credentials — has gotten me into rooms and opportunities I never imagined. That shift in mindset changed everything for me, and it’s one of the biggest lessons I now carry with pride.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has a way of shaping character in ways success never could. When life isn’t going your way, you’re forced to confront your true self — your patience, discipline, and resilience. It’s in those moments of discomfort and adversity that you discover just how strong you really are. Success can reward you, but it rarely teaches you. Struggling through challenges, working hard despite setbacks, and learning to endure the pain — that’s what builds real strength. The beauty is in coming out on the other side, knowing you didn’t just achieve results, but you grew into someone stronger and more capable because of the journey.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
One of the biggest misconceptions I see, even among very smart people, is the belief that success is all about piling on more education and knowledge. In reality, outside of fields like medicine, engineering, or dentistry where formal training is essential, what truly opens doors is connection. Building genuine relationships with people who are already on the other side of the door, asking the right questions, and learning directly from their experience often gives you the exact blueprint you need to succeed. Education is valuable, but relationships, mentorship, and access are often what determine who actually gets the opportunity.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I were to retire tomorrow, I believe my customers would miss the genuine connection I bring into every interaction. Beyond the health, wellness, and fitness advice I provide, what matters most is the trust and consistency of having someone in their corner week after week. My clients know they can count on me not only for effective workouts and sustainable lifestyle strategies, but also for guidance through the mental and emotional challenges we all face daily. It’s that personal connection — the feeling of being supported, encouraged, and understood — that I believe they would miss the most.
