Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Chaunice D. Neal BSN, RN, B.S.Ed. of The Heights

We recently had the chance to connect with Chaunice D. Neal BSN, RN, B.S.Ed. and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chaunice D., thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Prayer, scripture and some quality time with God then about a 2 mile walk in the neighborhood . I shower then breakfast while looking through my calendar and to-do list for the day. My mornings are very sacred so I avoid talking on the phone or texting if at all possible until about 9am.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a registered nurse, educator, entrepreneur, and woman of faith with a passion for health equity. With a heart for serving marginalized communities, I focus on building meaningful relationships and creating culturally relevant health education that empowers individuals to advocate for themselves.

Through my organization, Tru Vessel Health, I help communities navigate the healthcare system with confidence while working to break down barriers that prevent people from reaching their optimal level of health. My mission is to inspire change, foster self-advocacy, and ensure that every person has the opportunity to thrive in health and in life.

Tru Vessel Health is a community based health education organization. We focus on providing health education to individuals in marginalized communities via seminars, health fairs and workshops. This organization was founded as a result of my experiences and the need for more intentional education beyond the bedside. People were constantly being admitted and readmitted to the hospital for manageable conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. These two conditions are very prevalent in black and brown communities that if left unmanaged or untreated lead to other
co-morbities such as heart disease, kidney disease and stroke.

Lately I have been working on a solution for better blood pressure management for individuals at home called The Heart Box. The box includes a blood pressure monitor, a blood pressure log/tracker, a Tru Vessel pen, an anatomical heart stress ball, a Tru Vessel Core Values Tee, and bonus access to our Tru Vessel Tribe community.
This amazing product will be launched at Invest Fest 2025 in Atlanta, GA and I am beyond excited! This was designed with patients and families in mind so that they have the necessary tools to manage their blood pressure and therefore feel more empowered when collaborating with their care team.

In addition to this product launch, I have been hosting my new podcast called The Bedside Report which was created as a platform for black and brown nurses to share their journeys, challenges, wins and successes in the profession. This podcast is meant to empower student nurses, seasoned nurses or those who are thinking about entering into the profession. Mentorship in nursing is very essential to success and longevity and therefore one of the most important programs being developed in association with the podcast.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Consistent unsolicited criticism and not enough praise can break the bond between people. Self-awareness, apologies, love and encouragement can restore them.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Feeling like I was not good enough and imposter syndrome. It has been such a crippling fear that has caused me to shrink and dim my own light at times. However, to combat these feelings I have had to change my internal dialogue and speak life and positivity into myself and remember what my creator says about me.

2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind”.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that reliability and trust are what matters to me. I take pride in providing both in my friendships therefore, truly value these characteristics in return.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to say that they not only felt seen by me, as most people do, but that I impacted their lives in such a way that they want to live to their fullest potential and serve others. I want people to say that I saw the best in them and they were able to experience the love of Christ during their interaction and experience with me.
