Hi Helen, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
In August I was appointed a State Queen Title with the Mrs. Black United States organization! I am ap honored but blown away at what just happened!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Greetings and Salutations! I am Helen Brison, a devoted wife to my amazing, handsome husband, mom to two of the most amazing children on the planet, a current reigning pageant queen AND a Realtor with one of the most innovative and forward-thinking Real Estate companies in the country (and Canada!) called PLACE. What I grown to love about being on a PLACE team is the demand that is put on the agents to serve our communities at the highest level. I am a Keller Williams Realty agent, but because I am apart of PLACE, I have team members that are from a variety of brokerages because PLACE is Broker-Open. I feel like it is truly iron sharpening iron and together we make each other better.
I started out a solo agent and I did enjoy it. I started in the amazing Keller Williams Premier in Katy, TX and it was there I received truly top-tier training from the leadership there and experienced the most invented associate leadership council that poured into the new agents constantly. I started exploring teams and I met with a number of team leaders for picking the unique opportunity with PLACE that has laid out growth opportunities I could’ve never imagined.
One of the areas that I am finding has great opportunity is educating people on not just getting a house, but on wealth building and investing opportunities. I also find myself educating families on the importance of having comprehensive Trusts together to help keep wealth in their family.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I must say grandmother and my mother taught me the most about work. I was raised single parent and I was blessed to have alot of time with my grandmother growing up. My grandmother was a housekeeper (for all of my life at least) and I would go with her to her clients homes. My Maw Maw worked hard and worked until her late 80s. She was loved and adored by every family she had in her care. My mom was the queen of administration- she kept every business she worked for All.The.Way.Togrther. I was in a number of school and civic clubs, traveled many summers for national conferences from 6th grade to senior year, I was a dance major at the number 1 rated magnet school in my city and also danced at a university in my high school years. My mom worked so hard as the sole provider to allow me to participate in every little thing she thought was good for me. I get my work ethic, and my love for organization (my degree is Industrial Organizational Psychology) from her.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think building a life in Real Estate is full of opportunities to give up. I remember when I was studying to license back in 2021 and my instructor flat out shared that the failure rate in Real Estate is almost 90% (or something to that effect). I am an optimist myself so I internally rejected her stat haha, but since I became a Realtor in May of 2021 I have seen people come in and go out of the industry. I think that everyday a Realtor wakes up in pursuit of their goal – the thought can creep in to give up. Maybe you dialed 50 or 100 leads that day- and made no appointments. Maybe this is your third referral that will end up being future business because of their life circumstances. Maybe a high producer left your team and you feel a strain on your unit goals. Maybe your listing expired. There’s countless opportunities to throw in the towel- but don’t. Get up tomorrow and try again.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I can say with a sigh of relief that I am what I am lol. I’m always lecturing (encouraging) someone somewhere. I love humans and I enjoy helping people feel seen and valuable- because they are. I’m a strict parent and a recovering perfectionist. I laugh loud and I love to be polished and prayerful. My name actually translates to “Light” and I enjoy being that.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I am working on building relationships and a book of business that I will eventually share with my son (he’s 9). He enjoys showing houses with me and going to my office. My hope is that I can live an entrepreneurial life with work boundaries so that my family always feel like they are my highest priority. I don’t want my children to get burnt out on mommy’s business.
